Repeated intro
Hello, and welcome to the first dev diary for Anathyma. In these I will be talking to you about the upcoming content for the next big update for Anathyma.
What changed
- Gameplay
- Balance
If you could tell from the small tease in the new trailer, the next update will be themed around the Modern era, more specifically the 20th century. The goal with this new content is to give a greater sense of progression for the game, extending gameplay beyond the current 30 waves. This will be done by adding in new units, towers and weapons, increasing strategic diversity by creating new problems for the players to solve, and new tools to play with to solve them.
Generally, the new Modern World will feature more powerful tools than the Medieval World. Modern units will be tankier, deal more damage, and have more range than Medieval units. Range especially is a point of focus in the Modern World, with very few melee options. This will counterbalance the Medieval World's heavier use of melee units and weapons. These more powerful units will generally start trickling in the tail end of the Medieval World's run, especially after wave 30. Modern towers and weapons will be more expensive than Medieval ones, leading to a sense of technological progression as the player moves on from one era to the next.
Infantry
The first new unit I am going to reveal is the most basic. The humble infantry carries a rifle with a bayonet, and hits harder and from a greater range than the archer. And unlike the archer, they are not as vulnerable in melee combat, as their rifles are equipped with bayonets, which they can use to fight in melee.
Shotgunner
The other unit I am revealing is one of the units closest to being a melee unit in the Modern world. The shotgunner, as the name implies, carries a shotgun that fires multiple, inaccurate pellets. At close range, the inaccuracy doesn't matter and every shot will add up, dealing a ton of damage.
