Repeated intro

Hello, and welcome to the third dev diary for Anathyma. In this one I will be revealing the final three foot soldier units coming in the next update.

What changed

0 fixes1 addition3 changes0 removals
  • Gameplay
  • Balance
changedThe Guard is a direct upgrade over regular infantry (despite being equipped with chronologically older clothes), with better stats across the board. However, Guards' strength comes with numbers. When multiple Guards are nearby, they will coordinate their shots to fire in parallel. While this means that some of them would miss their shots, the resulting wave of bullets is far harder to dodge with normal movement when compared to regular predictive fire. This disciplined pattern is also a lot more bursty, and can catch players off-guard when a volley hits.
changedCommandos are the second-strongest infantry unit in the game, with stats even greater than the Guard. The Commando remains camouflaged outside of combat, ensuring that he does not get hit by any stray projectiles until he can begin fighting himself. With his own camouflage detection, he can also catch any sneaky moves. In combat, the Commando fights with a knife and a 3-shot burst-fire pistol. While his attacks are short-ranged, they are also very fast to execute, so he is always repositioning, which can be difficult to deal with thanks to his erratic movement pattern.
changedThe Elite Commando is the strongest infantry unit in the game, and a major headache to deal with. His equipment is far stronger than the Commando, as he carries an assault rifle and a machete, hitting much harder than the Commando. Like the Commando, he has out-of-combat camouflage and can detect camouflage. However, the major difference between the two is that the Elite Commando has one more ability, throwing smoke grenades. Smoke camouflages all units inside it, which would be net neutral, but since the Elite Commando has camouflage detection, it instead becomes his home turf, where he can cause tons of damage within the chaos that ensues.
addedThis concludes the foot soldier section of the unit reveal. Stay tuned for next month where I will begin introducing the mechanical part of the new units.

While the previous diary talked about units with more unique styles of combat, these units are mostly about raw power, meant to break your defenses with pure force.

Guard

The Guard is a direct upgrade over regular infantry (despite being equipped with chronologically older clothes), with better stats across the board.

Commando

Commandos are the second-strongest infantry unit in the game, with stats even greater than the Guard.

Elite Commando

The Elite Commando is the strongest infantry unit in the game, and a major headache to deal with.

This concludes the foot soldier section of the unit reveal. Stay tuned for next month where I will begin introducing the mechanical part of the new units.
