Afterdepth changes
What’s New?
Version 0.1.8 brings one of the most important changes so far to the foundation of Afterdepth: the arrival of nodes, small special areas hidden throughout the world, designed to expand exploration with new challenges, story clues, and exclusive rewards.
This update also improves the overall experience with voice acting in Brazilian Portuguese and English, a rework of the PC controls, adjustments to the grappling hook, improvements to air and gas simulation, changes to the terminal map, dialogue portraits with character expressions, and several important fixes to gameplay, interface, and saving.
Update Highlights
Nodes: New Discoveries in the World
Nodes are a new exploration mechanic: special spaces that can be found during your journey, bringing their own content, different challenges, and small rewards for players willing to investigate.
They are meant to feel like meaningful discoveries inside the open world, adding more variety to exploration while gradually revealing more about the story of Afterdepth.
Steam post image Voice Acting in Brazilian Portuguese and English
This update adds voice acting to important story dialogues, with voices in Brazilian Portuguese and English.
This helps give more weight to narrative moments, making conversations feel more natural and reinforcing the atmosphere of isolation, mystery, and discovery inside the bunker.
Dialogue Portraits and Expressions
Story conversations now include character profile images and facial expressions, making dialogues feel more alive and easier to follow.
This helps give more personality to the characters and makes important story moments more expressive during exploration.Steam post image PC Controls: New Mapping
PC controls have been reorganized to make important actions feel more natural, including digging, jumping, interacting, using scaffolding, and navigating selections.
We also added clearer mouse support for core actions, making keyboard and mouse gameplay more comfortable.
Air, Gases, and the World
The air and gas simulation received important improvements. Environmental behavior is now more consistent, with better propagation, dissipation, and clearer visual feedback across different areas.
This directly affects exploration, danger awareness, and how players understand areas with low oxygen or gas presence.
Steam post imageThe game’s default FPS target has also changed from 90 FPS to 60 FPS, and it can still be adjusted in the settings.
Terminal Map and Points of Interest
The terminal map, unlocked after restoring the bunker, now gives better indications of certain points of interest, including important locations for progression and crafting.
This should help players better understand where to look for resources and how to orient themselves during the next steps of exploration. Steam post image Grappling Hook and Movement
The grappling hook received adjustments to make aiming feel better, especially on keyboard. Aim direction can now move more smoothly, and its speed can be adjusted in the gameplay options.
We also made changes to movement while jumping and to how the player controls the character while aiming.
