addedThis patch marks our first big balance update. We've been keeping a close eye on the balance of the various factions and seeing what's been doing well in PvP, as well as playing a lot of PvP ourselves. We've been happy with the variety of decks and the ingenuity of strategies we've seen! Over the course of thousands of games played, we now have the data to see that the Gremlins have been struggling to find wins, while the Untamed have been doing very well, so we're making a few adjustments to bring things a bit more in line. We have our eye on a few things that haven't gotten touched this patch, and we welcome community discussion about them:
addedCard ChangesInfected Cut now draws a card if you kill with it. - No Napping now costs 4, down from 5. - The Final Squeeze now costs 4, down from 5. We're finding that the Gremlin faction is struggling, especially against Untamed midrange decks. We're happy with where the power of Gremlin allies are at, and we don't want to push that, Gremlins quickly demolish a player that has no early defense. However, the faction quickly runs out of steam if the first few turns are stopped. We want to encourage the faction to use more tools and find clever ways to close out games, rather than just buffing the power of the allies dealing damage. - The Unending is now a 2/2 baseline, up from a 1/1. The Unending is a very popular champion, a lot of people want to play with the effect, however the champion's winrate is very low. We're buffing The Unending's starting power so that the deck can output a little more damage and help it win games. - The Dusk Queen has a new effect: "The first time each turn I see an ally damage to an opponent or dodge an opponent's effect, I draw an ability card." - The Dusk Queen now costs 6. Of all the Starter champions, The Dusk Queen was by far the least played. One of the design goals of The Dusk Queen was to teach new players about the dodging mechanics of the game, but she's failed to act as a champion people actually want to helm their deck. - Duel now costs 2, up from 1. - Protects-the-Tribe now heals for 2, down from 3. - Adaptive Warrior now heals for 2, down from 3. The Untamed have come out of the gates as one of the strongest factions, especially against aggressive decks. The nature of the Untamed as a faction means they're already well positioned against fast aggressive decks, so we want their healing options not to take them out of kill range so quickly. Duel was also out of line, as it functions as both a removal card and a synergy piece in most decks.
removedGeneral ChangesChive no longer swears, he says gleep like the rest of us now.
addedGeneral ChangesWhen a player's max health is changed midgame (such as with Liberk) the new total will be displayed in-game.
fixedBug FixesFixed a bug where Fawnfluencer would not trigger from Eager-to-Fight's ability.
fixedBug FixesFixed a bug where drawing the card that Ingenuity put on top of your deck too quickly would cause it to go back into your deck.

This patch marks our first big balance update.

  • The Bloody Mane has proven to be the most popular non-Starter champion, with a high winrate as well. We decided not to change him directly this patch as the Untamed have already taken several nerfs, but our eye is on him.

  • Potion of Youth's ability to one-shot somebody, especially after paying all that life into Vorephelim Headdress, is concerning. At this point we haven't taken action because the winrate of that deck isn't actually very high.

Card Changes

  • Infected Cut now draws a card if you kill with it. The nature of the Untamed as a faction means they're already well positioned against fast aggressive decks, so we want their healing options not to take them out of kill range so quickly. Duel was also out of line, as it functions as both a removal card and a synergy piece in most decks.

General Changes

  • When hiding your identity in a matchmade game, your profile picture will also be randomized.

  • Made some minor adjustments to the tutorial to prevent a rare possibility of soft-locking it.

  • Chive no longer swears, he says gleep like the rest of us now.

  • When a player's max health is changed midgame (such as with Liberk) the new total will be displayed in-game.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where Fawnfluencer would not trigger from Eager-to-Fight's ability.

  • Fixed a bug where drawing the card that Ingenuity put on top of your deck too quickly would cause it to go back into your deck.

  • Removed Last Stand's clarification notes where it says it can be used on enemy characters, which contradicts the card text.

  • Fixed a bug where the targeting system considered Liberk and Sleep Duster to be ability cards, and strongly discouraged you from targeting them.

  • Fixed a bug where The Humble Heart's on-field text wouldn't reset if he left play.

  • "Lord" cards (such as Kale the Conqueror) are now reapply their buffs to revived cards.

  • Fixed a bug where Liberk would heal the enemy player to full, or fail to after reducing their health, as he was checking his own max health, not the enemy's max health.

  • Fixed a bug where the CPU casting Choices Choices could cause the server to crash.

  • Fixed a bug where Possessing Muse wouldn't give back its possession if it left play by means other than dying.

Thank you everybody that has been submitting in-game bug reports, and reaching out to us about issues! We've also been loving all the spirited discussion about strategies and deckbuilding. If you want to join us on Discord there's been a lot of lively chatter about the game.
