WorldShards changes
WorldShards is happy to welcome 2023, and what better way to do so than by diving into what WorldShards looks like today, give you a little information on what we’re working towards (yes, it’s game design exploration time) and a look at the some of the progress that we’ve achieved so far!
So, join us on this paw-tasic dive into WorldShards!
WorldShards Today!
First thing first, let’s showcase what WorldShards looks like today. Just remember, this is all very early days - to the extent that features, models, and even game mechanics tend to change by the week, - our devs are doing amazing work every week!
Introducing the Wargs
Lately, the feline inhabitants of Murrlandia have not had an easy time. First, an archmage accidentally triggers armageddon, and then their planet’s geography dramatically changes as continents fractured and took to the skies.
However, this was just the beginning as an aggressive race, known as the Wargs invaded. The Wargs, having destroyed their own planet, discovered Murrlandia and decided that this planet would be an ideal replacement. Unfortunately for the Meowkles, the Wargs wanted only the planet - not the inhabitants, and so the Meowkles found themselves fighting for their home and their lives.
What do these Wargs look like? An excellent question, and since our team has recently completed a lot of work on them, we’ve put this quick animated demonstration together.
For the development fans, here’s a look at how the Warg evolved overtime as your team developed it.
These Wargs are totally going to be a fur-midable opponent!
Introducing Abilities
As an (upcoming) Sandbox RPG, a big part of the game will be the ability system. After all, a big part of enjoying a game is getting to know the abilities, learning what the best and most powerful ones are, and seeing them executed in-game in all their animated goodness.
There are many ways for an ability system to work in games, so how does WorlsShards tackle this?
For this, let’s ask one of the residential Meokles!
Meow, it’s time to look at the game! WorldShards does not have a normal ability system, nya! Humans in Murrlandia seem to gain paw-tastic abilities from the very weapons that they equip. These abilities unlock the moment that the weapon is equipped, so make sure to get familiar with your weapon by training hard with it. Do that and I’m sure that you’ll go down in hiss-tory as a true meow-tastic hero!
So here’s a look at an ability that you (the player) will get to use. What’s more, this is an ability that we’ve recently polished so you can see the old version and the new one side by side.
And that's that for this update and look at WorldShards. Development continues to press ahead and we're going to enjoy sharing news and updates on our progress.
