World of Slime changes
We are TEAM42, the devs behind the upcoming casual MMORPG, ‘World of Slime.’
In our last Dev. Note, we introduced the Slimepedia, where every slime you meet gets recorded, and the Slime Knowledge that becomes real power on your journey.
So what can you actually do with all those slimes logged in your Slimepedia?
Today, we’re here to answer that! Let’s talk about Exploration with your slimes, and Slime Riding, which will carry you to places your own two feet could never reach.
Hop on a Slime and Go Anywhere!
All across the World of Slime, there are rivers you can’t wade across and snowy trails you can’t climb on two legs. When you hit one, just ask the slime traveling with you for a hand. Reach the water and you’ll swim on slimeback; hit a slippery snowfield and your slime will pull you along on a sled. Places that were completely out of reach on foot become brand-new stages for adventure once you have a slime with you.
The feeling we cared about most when building Exploration was curiosity about what lies beyond. The far bank of a river, the top of a cliff, the depths of a foggy forest—we didn’t want that terrain to feel like a wall in your way. We wanted it to feel like an invitation, the kind that makes you wonder, “Which slime should I bring to get over there?” So as we design each region, we’re planting spots all over the map that you can see, but can’t reach just yet.
The part we brainstormed hardest during development was how movement feels. If hopping on and off a slime is a hassle, it breaks the flow of exploration; but if it’s too effortless, the world you walk through on your own two feet starts to feel thin. We want every slime to keep its own rhythm of movement while the controls still feel light, so we are constantly tweaking the system based on internal tests and playtest feedback.
Path Blocked? Leave It to Your Slime!
Out on the trail, you’ll run into moments that simply getting around won’t solve. Thick vines choking the path, stubborn ice that just won’t melt, pitch-dark caves where you can’t see an inch ahead. That’s when a slime you’ve built up a strong bond with will move exactly how you want it to and open up the road ahead.
A slime that cuts clean through vines, a slime that smashes ice to pieces, a slime that lights up the darkness. Every slime is good at something different, so the paths that open up all depend on who you brought along.
This ties right back into the Slime Knowledge story from our last note. The deeper you get to know a slime, the more of its hidden abilities unlock—and those abilities really shine out in the field. We wanted filling up your Slimepedia to literally widen the world you can walk into, so that collecting and exploring keep pushing each other forward in a loop.
The moments we hope you’ll enjoy most with Exploration are things like:
“What kind of slime lives on the other side of this river?”
“Which one of my buddies can clear that thing blocking my way?”
“What’s waiting for me at the edge of the map, in the places I haven’t reached yet?”
As you tame, record, and travel together, your slimes will quietly become the most dependable companions on the road! In our last note, we mentioned that the Slimepedia becomes a storybook that belongs only to you—and the next page of that book gets written out on the trail, with a slime right beside you.
Thank you so much to everyone eagerly waiting for World of Slime. If you’re excited to hit the road with a slime of your own, please Wishlist and Follow us on Steam! It really means the world to us.
In our next Dev. Note, we’ll introduce another set of delightful life-content activities you’ll come across out on your travels!
Best regards,
TEAM42
