Witherspring Wilds changes
There's a lot to do in Witherspring Wilds - improving your skills, building your village, meeting other settlers… but something we're especially fond of is the creature taming. How can you not love having an adorable pixel reptile following you around, only wanting the occasional pet and snack in exchange for defending you?
While creatures can be dangerous enemies, we want all living creatures to be tamable with a variety of uses as pets - like producing items, mounts and defending you from the wild. Here's a list of the four creatures you'll find in the starting area of the game:
Afowl
Meet the Afowl, a flightless bird that is generally peaceful, but territorial and social, so beware if you approach their nests or attack their friends. Farmers hate them as they are known to eat crops - but a well placed scarecrow or fence can keep them away. Afowl eat plants and seeds - and can be won over with just a few offerings of food.
Goxen
Goxen are agile high-elevation herbivores. They can be stubborn and charge at any who encroach on their territory. Their charge is fast, too - better side-step or it will hit hard! But that speed comes in handy when you tame them and ride them. They also produce wool and milk, making them great farm animals.
Cattern
Catterns are stealthy, reclusive felines who live in the northern forest. They mainly eat Afowl, but they might attack if you enter their territory. However, when tamed they make loyal pets - they will defend you and your farm from those pesky Afowl. As a familiar they can even share their night vision with you.
Swampjaw
Swampjaws are a fearsome reptile who lurk just beneath the surface of the rivers and marshes of the south, ready to ambush unsuspecting prey. They don't move often, but when they do, they go quite fast - both on land and water. They do breathe air, and so must keep their snout above the water to breathe. See if you can spot them!
More Creatures?
Will we be adding more creatures to Witherspring Wilds? Absolutely!
We already have a fun idea for a cave-dwelling creature in the starting area.
What other kinds of creatures would you love to see in the game?
