We're Getting Deeper Into The Abyss changes
Alrighty, let's talk about stuff.
Achievements!
I've been a developer for a while now, and my previous games were lacking in this section. So yes, my game will have achievements. I'm hoping to have quite a few achievements, so, don't worry. If you're a person who likes achievements, this is something to enjoy.
I'll try and make them as fair and also challenging. Nothing that will require any software to change the game around, or wait for this amount of time, yada yada.. Maybe, we'll see. It's achievements, we'll see. I want them to be pretty fun, and actually awarding, though. And art will be applied to each achievement, I'm hoping. They will be there at release.
Now the fun topic, hopefully we all agree on this...
AI stuff, okay.
AI has been big in talk recently and with software being in help recently with other artist, there are programs that make pictures easily. For example, I could go to this program and write "cartoony painting" of some sort, blah blah. And eventually, I'd get what I want. Obviously, if I wrote that description in more detail, that picture would be way better and what I would need.
Now, this could be extremely helpful for my game and speed up progress by a landslide.
BUT. This is my dream game, and I refuse to use AI and tools like this. Each drawing in this game (even if it might not look the best) I drew it myself, and also has some story to it. Background art, the models, everything will all be made by me. Textures, I made sure are not AI generated. As this used to be a rule for Steam. Do not use anything AI, basically.
Once more, I cannot and will not use AI in this project. I'm a single developer doing everything in this project. I know this AI thing can speed up everything by days, months even. There has been hours wasted just by drawing and modeling. AI can't create what humans can. Emotion, and I plan on sticking with that. I'll take as much time as I need with the art and everything needed in this game.
Anyway, to me, it isn't a tool. Let's move on.
So some more on this player controller stuff!
I know, annoying stuff. I'm not an amazing animator / programmer / game developer. So I'm gonna share off everything, but people might find this interesting, y'know? So, let me show you. From last time, I updated the animations slightly. This might get updated again, so this could change. I also already changed a mechanic.
When moving in any direction, Frei Kay's eyes will follow. So, if the player decides to press W, then Frei Kay will look up. So it will overall look nicer. Take a look.
Originally, he was only going to look left to right. And that was included in his base animations. But I programmed his movements and animations, so he will look in any direction the player is going. I also programmed the game to allow the player to play with the arrow keys, but aye, minor stuff.
This is something to add, I might do something for keybindings in the future. I'm going to finalize the game before I add this, but I want to add accessibility. As much as I can.
Let's take at him again, the player controller seems fully functional so far. I was having trouble getting it working for awhile, and I refused to move onto anything else until I got this one thing working and how I wanted it. So now, here he is.
Some GIFs have been sped up, know that.
So far, I think that covers a lot of it... Anyway, thanks for this! That's another wrap up for this one.
