addedWARNO - LANDJUT is almost ready to be shipped out to you eager beavers, together with the free-for-all artillery rework update. However, we want to polish both a bit more - especially the gameplay changes - to make sure all the new content arrives in tip-top shape.
changedNemesis #7 - State of Emergency is very similar in theme and scope to the Nemesis #4 - Capital Defence , which focused on two defensive battlegroups tasked with protecting their respective nation’s capital. State of Emergency is slightly different as one of the formations is based in the capital, while the other one was a special interior security division.
changedParis’ own Garde Républicaine protects the government’s infrastructure. This is a Gendarmerie “brigade” with two infantry and one (horse) cavalry regiment. The latter is famous for escorting the President’s staff car during the yearly famous 14th of July Parade (and being one of the last mounted units to train a squadron charge with sabers ). Their main mission is to protect the French state’s buildings and personnel.
addedThe GIGN and EPIGN . Do we need to introduce the famous Groupement d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale ? Created in 1974, this elite counter-terrorism tactical unit first made history two years later with its intervention in Loyada (Djibouti), where it introduced synchronized sniping. This counter-terrorism unit really made the stuff of legends with the retaking of Air France’s Flight 8969 at Marignane airport in 1994, with no fatal casualties among the hostages. The Escadron Parachutiste de la Gendarmerie Nationale is its lesser-known airborne counterpart, created in 1984, specialized in intelligence gathering and government VIP protection.
addedEast of Paris (150km so, meaning closer than Bovington is to London, included in the Home Defence Region London part of Nemesis #4.3 - Capital Defence ) were two military camps, from which personnel and equipment would have been commandeered if Paris would have come under threat. This included Camps de Châlons , more commonly known as Camps de Mourmelon, which served as the armored forces' maneuver training field. All new armored equipment was tested there, and personnel were trained by instructors on its use. Next to the above site was Camps de Suippes , the artillery training field, located on grounds devastated by World War I.
addedThe Zone de Defense - Paris in WARNO How will the Zone de Défense - Paris look like in WARNO ? New units are marked in both italic and bold . All the below, as always, is still a work in progress and subject to change.

The time has come to lift the tip of the veil of that “secret” pre-chosen Nemesis #7. In today’s DevBlog, we can reveal that this particular mini-DLC will be called Nemesis #7 - State of Emergency and contain one French and one Soviet battlegroup.

Let’s take a look at NATO’s division, Zone de Défense - Paris and its arsenal of nifty, hard-hitting, and some exotic units.

Go, go, go!

Status Update Before we dive into the dirty deets of Nemesis #7 - State of Emergency, a short status updates on the other things cooking in Eugen’s kitchen.

WARNO - LANDJUT is almost ready to be shipped out to you eager beavers, together with the free-for-all artillery rework update. However, we want to polish both a bit more - especially the gameplay changes - to make sure all the new content arrives in tip-top shape.

To be clear: both WARNO - LANDJUT and the artillery rework will be released in the very near future. Nemesis #7 - State of Emergency will only launch after the expansion and the update have launched.

Now, let’s go check out this mystery Nemesis DLC!

Nemesis #7 - State of Emergency First up: Nemesis #7 - State of Emergency is one of Eugen’s “chosen” DLC options. Every other Nemesis, instead of having an open vote, the team will pre-select a pair of interesting divisions. The reason? To massively speed up the planning and production of the mini-expansion (so you don’t have to wait too long between Nemesis drops).

Nemesis #7 - State of Emergency is very similar in theme and scope to the Nemesis #4 - Capital Defence, which focused on two defensive battlegroups tasked with protecting their respective nation’s capital. State of Emergency is slightly different as one of the formations is based in the capital, while the other one was a special interior security division.

History of Zone de Defense - Paris On to Zone de Défense - Paris or ZdD - Paris in short. Territorial France was divided into 6 administrative régions militaires, each with a territorial command responsible for its defense. These commands were built on the foundations of at least one brigade de zone (territorial brigade), where the eastern regions (closest to West Germany) having two brigades, and the south-east having only one plus the wartime 152e Division d'Infanterie (Nemesis #2 - Plateau d'Albion).

The Brigades de Zone were mobile groups within each territorial command, while additional smaller static units were tasked with guarding key positions and local military infrastructure (airfields, training camps, bases, etc.).

The Zone de Défense - Paris, as the name so aptly applies, was the command charged with protecting the City of Light and its surrounding areas. It was formed around the 102e Brigade de Zone (with two infantry and one cavalry regiment, plus a helicopter group) and several static formations, all reservists, backed by the half-regular, half-reservist 24e Régiment d'Infanterie. Each infantry regiment, even the static ones, had their own cavalry element, all on AMLs.

History of Zone de Defense - Paris Continued The ZdD - Paris would also take over some other local units with war on the horizon.

Paris’ own Garde Républicaine protects the government’s infrastructure. This is a Gendarmerie “brigade” with two infantry and one (horse) cavalry regiment. The latter is famous for escorting the President’s staff car during the yearly famous 14th of July Parade (and being one of the last mounted units to train a squadron charge with sabers). Their main mission is to protect the French state’s buildings and personnel.

Next to the Palace of Versailles, south of Paris, the Satory’s military camp is home to several Gendarmerie’s special units. These would also be folded into the ZdD - Paris battlegroup.

  • The 1er GBGM (Groupement Mobile de Gendarmerie Nationale) is the service’s armored squadron, equipped with VBC-90 and AML armored cars, and VBRG and AMX-13 VTT APCs. These "armored Gendarmes" are tasked with protecting the government in case of war or riots.

  • The GIGN and EPIGN. Do we need to introduce the famous Groupement d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale? Created in 1974, this elite counter-terrorism tactical unit first made history two years later with its intervention in Loyada (Djibouti), where it introduced synchronized sniping. This counter-terrorism unit really made the stuff of legends with the retaking of Air France’s Flight 8969 at Marignane airport in 1994, with no fatal casualties among the hostages. The Escadron Parachutiste de la Gendarmerie Nationale is its lesser-known airborne counterpart, created in 1984, specialized in intelligence gathering and government VIP protection.

  • The Escadron Motocycliste de la Garde Républicaine, or the Garde’s bad-ass motorbike riders. They had a cool uniform, and although not featured as a unit in-game, their model will.

  • The Satory military camp also housed the AMX workshops, which at the time, tested the first six prototypes of what would later evolve into the char Leclerc main battle tank.

East of Paris (150km so, meaning closer than Bovington is to London, included in the Home Defence Region London part of Nemesis #4.3 - Capital Defence) were two military camps, from which personnel and equipment would have been commandeered if Paris would have come under threat. This included Camps de Châlons, more commonly known as Camps de Mourmelon, which served as the armored forces' maneuver training field. All new armored equipment was tested there, and personnel were trained by instructors on its use. Next to the above site was Camps de Suippes, the artillery training field, located on grounds devastated by World War I.

Furthermore, additional air force personnel would be included in the ZdD - Paris.

The Zone de Defense - Paris in WARNO How will the Zone de Défense - Paris look like in WARNO? New units are marked in both italic and bold. All the below, as always, is still a work in progress and subject to change.

LOG A pretty good category, as the ZdD - Paris plays the home advantage. This means:

  • Command units being the M201 PC, VAB PC, and ALOUETTE II PC.

  • And supply units consisting of a FOB, TRM-2000 LOG, and the new heavy BERLIET GBC 8KT LOG.

INF A very good category.

  • The battlegroup’s main infantry will be the RESERVISTES, in all existing variants (CMDT, FAMAS, MAS-36, FR-F1, HMG, and SAPEURS). They come in the unarmed BERLIET GBC 8KT and BERLIET GBC 8KT M2HB with a .50 cal.

  • The new CONSCRITS squads, equipped entirely with MAT-49, MAS-49/56 and AA-52, plus the Militia and Reservists traits. These soldiers will represent young French draftees thrown into battle with barely a few weeks' training.

  • GRENADIERS-VOLTIGEURS (CMDT, "vanilla", or APILAS variants) and GROUPE ANTICHAR are also featured in small numbers, repreasenting the standing elements from 24e RI, with the TRM-2000 and VAB as transports.

  • Support weapon teams include the RES. M40A1, AANF-1, M2HB, MILAN 1, and MILAN 2, all in soft skins and the latter also in VAB MILAN version.

  • The Gendarmerie is also present with:

    • PREVOTE in P4 and P4 GENDARMERIE.

    • GENDARMES MOBILES in AMX-13 VTT GENDARMERIE (with Military Police trait) and the VBRG.

    • And the hard-fighting Garde Republicaine, all with the Resolute and Security traits:

      • CMDT. GARDES REPUBLICAINS: Leader squad with 4x FAMAS, LRAC-73, and Smoke grenades. They come in P4 jeeps.

      • GARDES REPUBLICAINS: 7x FAMAS, 1x AA-52, plus AC-58 anti-tank grenades. They come in BERLIET GBC 8KT and BERLIET GBC 8KT M2HB with a .50 cal.

      • GARDES REPUBLICAINS (FR-F1): 7x FAMAS, 1x FR-F1. They come in the same transport options as above.

    • GIGN: special forces squad with 3x MP-5, 4x FAMAS, 1x FR-F1, and Smoke grenades, plus the Special Forces and Shock traits. They deploy in TRAFFIC GENDARMERIE and SUPER PUMA transports.

ART Not that great, being one of the division’s weak spots.

  • The Brigade de Zone and independent regiments, as well as the Gendarmerie components had nothing but small mortars, most of them being no bigger than 81mm caliber, with only a handful of larger 120mm systems.

  • The 24e RI contained some self-propelled VAB PM-81.

  • And the Camp de Suippes provides a few training M50/63 155mm howitzers. The unit could also draw from storage several F3 AUTOMOTEUR 155mm, to be crewed by reservists.

TANK A good category in terms of slot cost and numbers, though mostly light choices.

  • The most numerous tank available will be the plentiful RES. AML-90 from the Brigade de Zone and other static regiments, with a few AML-90 PC to lead them.

  • The Gendarmerie's armored squadron will provide some VBC-90, a 90mm tank gun-totting armored car based on a VAB chassis, with a performance close to the ERC-90. They will come in vanilla and VBC-90 PC, both with the Military Police trait.

  • The Mourmelons Camps will feature a single card of RES. AMX-30B2 trainee-manned tanks, led into battle by their INSTRUCT. AMX-30B, which is an Instructor on an older model with a .50 cal coaxial machine gun (similar to the Spanish AMX's setting).

  • Straight out of the AMX workshop at Satory, the battlegroup will also feature a select few MSC (which stands for Mulet Système Complet) prototypes. Although it doesn't look exactly like the final production Leclerc main battle tank, nor did they have the latter model's armor package, this predecessor does sport the same ultra-modern 120mm gun as the Leclerc will.

  • Missile-based tank destroyers include the M201 MILAN (reservists with a MILAN 1) and the P4 MILAN.

REC An average category, which includes the following existing French recon units:

  • RESERV. ECLAIREURS and ECLAIREURS recon squads.

  • The M201 106SR and M201 RASURA recon jeeps.

  • The ECUREUIL recon helicopter.

  • And the AML-60 GENDARMERIE.

New units include:

  • BERLIET BROMURE jammer truck.

  • The AML-90 GENDARMERIE.

  • The MH-1521 BROUSSARD unarmed observation plane.

  • And special forces EPIGN 4-strong scouts squad with 2x MP-5SD, 1x FR-F1, 1x FR-F2, plus Special Forces, Shock, Airborne, and Sniper traits.

AA Rather average, with regimental anti-air guns being the ubiquitous s 53T2 20mm guns.

  • The Brigade de Zone's own AA element is equipped with the older M39/55 40mm (Bofors L60!) and HTM16.

  • And several Armée de l'Air's CROTALE systems from nearby airfields around Paris.

  • Local workshops would easily be able to slap some twin-barrelled 20mm on BERLIET GBC 8KT CERBERE, creating a self-propelled heavy gun truck.

HEL Not very promising with just two open slots.

  • In wartime, the Brigade de Zone's helicopter squadron would be doubled in size thanks to local flight schools. All of them would fly the old ALOUETTE II AS.11, a variant only able to carry two anti-tank missiles.

AIR

  • Pretty good, with air support to be provided mainly by MIRAGE F1 and MIRAGE 2000, including the new strike MIRAGE 2000 C [HE] with CASCAD Mk. 1 heavy HE cluster submunitions.

The Zone de Défense - Paris is a territorial defensive battlegroup with plenty of infantry, plus some rather interesting and unique units, from special forces to a prototype main battle tank.

We’d like to give a special thanks (again) to our valued community member RamTank who did his own take on a Zone de Défense - Paris, which inspired to include the Broussard observation plane and EPIGN scouts.

Until Next Time In next week’s DevBlog, we’ll look at the Warsaw Pact’s division of Nemesis 7 - State of Emergency!
