fixedDuring the announcement, playtests, and demo, we received a lot of feedback about one specific issue: AI-generated character portraits. Even though we clearly noted on Steam that these portraits were temporary placeholders, they still came up in a huge number of negative reviews. So we decided to solve the problem properly. ✅ Warhounds is officially moving away from AI-generated portraits. Our new solution is simple - and much better. We now create portraits directly from each character’s in-game 3D model, using high resolution, improved skin shaders, and proper portrait lighting. Here’s how it works: 📸 place the character in a dedicated portrait scene 💡 set up professional portrait lighting 🧍 pose the model ✂️ manually crop and polish the final image ... then it goes straight into the game. This also created a new challenge: custom recruits . Players can customize their appearance, which means a fixed portrait would no longer match the character after editing. So we built a special system for that too: every time you finish customizing a recruit, the game automatically takes a new “photo” and generates an updated portrait that matches their current look. No AI. No mismatch. Just your squad - exactly as you built it. 🐺 🎥 Watch the video on YouTube:
