Repeated intro
Hello all, hope you're all doing really well! Summer has come early here in England so I currently have a fan on full blast 6 inches from my face.
What changed
- Maps
- Gameplay
- UI and audio
I've been working very hard on the game since Dreamhack in March, as the amazing feedback and attention has really buoyed my motivation. Because of this, I've released a big update to the demo on Steam, with almost all of the changes being ones that will effect the full game - not just the demo. These include:
Brand new map - only reveals as you explore, has indicators for key locations, has a zoom function, and looks a lot nicer.
Dialogue can now be sped up - highly requested so you can spam skip to your hearts content!,
The Worms are now far more fair and forgiving to get past - you still need to engage your brain, but for example simply changing direction without running won't instantly trigger them. You can also make a heroic dive to the rocks and they will just miss you (if you make it in time!)
ALAN is more powerful - his holds stop enemies for longer and prevent them from attacking, plus his throw launches them further.
Attacks are slightly faster - the new combat was a hit and felt much better, but was slightly too slow as lots of people commented on it. Both light and heavy attacks are now slightly faster and more useful.
ALANs aiming is now shown in a far more intuitive way - thanks to a fellow developer at Dreamhack for the idea.
Lots of UI improvements - Mostly aesthetic but lots of functional improvements such as a clear icon for the map button.
Many many bug fixes and quality of life improvements.
I'm now in the perfect position to enter a proper content development phase, as I expand the world and story beyond the demo area and go full steam ahead towards the full release.
Outside of dev work, I've also applied to some really exciting opportunities for Vitrified (1/3 already being successful) and I hope I can share more details in a few months time.
Thank you for following along with the progress of Vitrified, and I hope you have a wonderful day!
Cheers!
Jack
