addedHello Shield Maidens and Vikings, the last time we spoke we introduced our resident skald Snorri to you, one of the many memorable characters you will meet on your journey in the Steynajar archipelago. We recently uncovered a collection of Snorri's poems and songs, where he talks about a variety of topics from love and life to death and heroism. We definitely want to share a few of those with you over time and start today with this little piece, which is loosely inspired by Sonatorrek and the Arinbjarnarkviða.
changedMuch does it task me My tongue to cast The breath of song. Poetry, the gift of Odin, Promise now, I may not, A draught drawn not lightly From deep thought's dwelling. They, who so blameless Bore the powers in life, Adored by mountains Beloved by the sea waters. Unimaginable love Sea-waves flood that whilom Welled from the heart's wound Smite upon the rocky shore. Remembering now the land Draw near to their beginning, Each stone and shore Praise brave Skadi and great Njord. But no one is cheerful or gladsome Who beareth Body of a kinsman On a funeral bier. Of friends fallen This isles may tell, Of much-loved Who must mourn the loss. About great adventures Praised in skald poetry, And about the tree to bloom leafy With words of Snorri's song.
