changedFor me, this is not just a game, but an attempt to convey an important part of the past through interactivity. Without moralizing or lecturing, but with respect for the subject. I want to show that heroism was manifested not only in large battles remembered by everyone, but also in events that never made it onto the pages of history textbooks.
changedThe first part of the game is dedicated to the events of 1941 on the Eastern Front — from Brest to Moscow. This historical period changed the fate of an entire country, but still remains in the shadow of louder military events and is almost never talked about. In the future I want to create campaigns dedicated to other stages of the Second World War, involving more maps and historical locations.
changedAnd this fundamentally changes the gameplay. You build fortifications, place soldiers in trenches, call in aviation. And just a few minutes later, you are already defending positions yourself, destroying enemy forces from the shelters you built, controlling any soldier or unit of equipment!
changedArmor system: if you’ve played WoT, you’ll get flashbacks from the armor penetration system of different vehicles.

This post opens a series of publications about the game and the development process. Today I will tell you a little about how the game was created, what served as inspiration, and what future plans are.

First, let’s get acquainted. My name is Dmitry, I am the developer of the game Victory Banner — a tactical strategy about the Second World War.

Victory Banner combines my two main passions: history and game development. I have always been fascinated by cause-and-effect relationships in history, how decisions made decades ago continue to influence the present.

For me, this is not just a game, but an attempt to convey an important part of the past through interactivity. Without moralizing or lecturing, but with respect for the subject. I want to show that heroism was manifested not only in large battles remembered by everyone, but also in events that never made it onto the pages of history textbooks.

The first part of the game is dedicated to the events of 1941 on the Eastern Front — from Brest to Moscow. This historical period changed the fate of an entire country, but still remains in the shadow of louder military events and is almost never talked about. In the future I want to create campaigns dedicated to other stages of the Second World War, involving more maps and historical locations.

Victory Banner combines two full-fledged modes: a strategic one, with squad management like in classic strategies, and a direct control mode, with the ability to take control of any soldier or vehicle, turning the game into a third-person shooter.

Who can be controlled:

  • Infantry with various firearms.

  • Special units such as snipers, medics, and others.

  • Armored units, including tanks, trucks, and other mechanized forces.

  • Portable weapons such as mortars and machine guns.

  • Heavy artillery.

And this fundamentally changes the gameplay. You build fortifications, place soldiers in trenches, call in aviation. And just a few minutes later, you are already defending positions yourself, destroying enemy forces from the shelters you built, controlling any soldier or unit of equipment!

Briefly, what will be in the game:

  • Construction system: dig trenches, build bunkers, machine-gun nests, anti-tank obstacles, minefields.

  • Advanced inventory: equip fighters, change weapons and gear. And of course, keep track of your squad’s ammunition.

  • Unit special abilities: commanders inspire, medics treat the severely wounded, snipers stealthily eliminate the enemy.

  • Armor system: if you’ve played WoT, you’ll get flashbacks from the armor penetration system of different vehicles.

  • Air support: request reconnaissance and pinpoint air strikes.

Add Victory Banner to your Wishlist, subscribe to the game page so you don’t miss news about the demo release, playtests, and other events.

Write in the comments what you would like to learn about first, and I will tell you in the next posts. Thank you for supporting the project!

Sincerely,

Dmitry
