Update 1.2.0 is here!

Drivers, the 1.2.0 update for Velocide Overdrive is here. It brings 5 new power-ups, 3 new arenas, 2 new head skins, 2 new elimination effects, 2 new player colors, 18 new ambient tracks, a long list of UI improvements and several gameplay balance changes.

New power-ups

  • Monochrome (purple, 10 s) — turns the entire arena black and white. Trails, power-ups and projectiles are all desaturated and the scene snaps to a full black-on-white or white-on-black look (randomized per pickup). Colors return to their original state at the end of the effect.

  • Agony (purple, ~6 s) — razor spikes grow inward from every wall of the arena, plus a 45° spike at each corner. Spikes are lethal on contact for everyone, including the caster. Stackable effect.

  • Space Gates (divine) — spawns a pair of stargate portals that stay active until the end of the round. Entering from the lit face teleports you to the partner as a comet of your own color. Entering from the wrong face is lethal. When a portal is used, a fresh one spawns to keep the pair alive for the rest of the round.

  • Inferno (divine) — opens a meteor rain over the arena. Each meteor is telegraphed by a ground marker and, on landing, kills nearby players and spreads a growing molten puddle. Puddles solidify into charred rock on which players can lay a trail again.

  • Ballista (green, 1.5 s wind-up) — deploys a siege ballista on the caster, then fires a 3-arrow cone. Each arrow can skewer several players in succession and carry them to the arena wall.

New head skins

  • Butterfly — unlocked after 30 minutes of survival

  • Leopard (main battle tank) — unlocked after 4 hours of survival

New arenas

Beach — unlocked at 3 achievements

Sakura — unlocked at 40 achievements

Forest — unlocked at 45 achievements

New elimination effects

  • Glitch — unlocked at 3 achievements.

  • Bloom — unlocked at 40 achievements.

New player colors

  • Royal Olive (dual gradient)

  • Neon Violet (tri gradient)

Gameplay balance

Psycho (buff)

  • Growth and explosion rates doubled. Victims now reach the explosion threshold in about 1 second instead of 2 — the power-up becomes dangerous at close range.

Artist (buff)

  • In addition to scrambling every player's trail color, Artist now also randomizes the type of every power-up currently on the floor and swaps the arena background to a different unlocked arena for the rest of the round.

Rocket (buff)

  • Rockets are now fired in a sequential salvo (0.2 s between each) instead of all at once. During their initial 0.5 s orbit around the owner they are invincible — they can no longer explode prematurely on walls, on trails, nor be bounced back by shields.

Zombie (nerf)

  • Revived players keep their original elimination order. A player who died first and came back as a zombie can no longer reclaim max round points by outlasting the living.

Tsunami (polish)

  • The push is no longer an instant teleport. Victims now glide smoothly over the push duration for a much more natural feel.

Burger (removed)

  • The green self-grow Burger power-up has been removed. The red "Feed Others" variant remains — it better fits the original intent of the power-up.

UI improvements

  • Special-round announcement — Negative, Team, Double and Frenzy rounds now show a large animated title on the arena for 3 seconds before the countdown starts.

  • World rank under Hall of Fame — your world rank (#1 up to #999+) now appears right under the Hall of Fame toggle when the panel is collapsed.

  • Pirate Ship skin (Supporter Pack) — the Pirate Ship skin unlock no longer fires on every launch. It now appears only once per player, and the fix is generic — any future premium skin will behave the same way.

  • Music hotkey N — the N (next track) hotkey no longer fires when N is assigned to a player in the menu bindings.

  • Numpad 1 warning with Remote Play Together — Steam Remote Play reserves Numpad 1 by default. A warning is now shown if a Remote Play session is active and Numpad 1 is bound to any player.

New player experience

  • Quick achievements toggle — a new button above Start lets you configure the match by enabling every achievement in one click.

  • Default audio volumes set to 30% Music / 30% SFX for first-time players. Existing players keep their saved settings.

  • Setup warnings — new feedback highlights setup issues (same key bound to several players, gamepad disconnected, etc.) before a round starts.

Localization

  • Negative Round naming harmonized across languages. The negative-scoring round was displayed under two different names depending on the UI slot (sidebar label vs. banner headline). All locales now use the same noun in both slots.

New ambient music

18 new ambient tracks have been added to the game's music rotation.

Coming next

The next update will be a major release, introducing a brand new game mode currently in development: a multiplayer showdown against unique bosses, each with their own kit of signature abilities. Every boss will demand a different strategic approach and provide a real challenge. Join the community to follow development!

Thank you to everyone who plays Velocide Overdrive and helps me improve the game patch after patch.

Welcome to v1.2.0
