addedRanged weaponsThe new mechanic in this update is ranged weapons. Currently there is only one ranged weapon, the wooden crossbow and one type of ammo, wooden bolts. Once equipped, the ranged weapon fires bolts at intervals and consumes the ammo from your inventory. If there is no ammo in your inventory, it defaults to a melee attack. The player automatically rotates towards the mouse cursor when attacking (which also applies to melee attacks).
addedNew enemy typesThere are 2 new enemy types in the game. Overall, the enemies in the game have been reworked to be easier and they are not biome specific, for now. Any enemy type can spawn in any biome.
changedEarly game changesThe most common feedback I’ve gotten on the game, is that the early game is too difficult. So, I’ve changed some things. Now, enemies don’t start spawning until day 2 and enemies in general have been made easier. This includes how much damage they deal, movement speed and attack speed. The way enemies are spawned, has also been changed.

Before the notes, if you want to watch the second part of the Youtube series from the previous post, here is part 2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCC8xFH1lNs There is something oddly satisfying about watching someone run from a giant dragonfly with glowing eyes during the night.

Ranged weapons

The new mechanic in this update is ranged weapons.

New enemy types

There are 2 new enemy types in the game. Overall, the enemies in the game have been reworked to be easier and they are not biome specific, for now. Any enemy type can spawn in any biome.

Currently, this is the roster of NPCs in the game.

Early game changes

The most common feedback I’ve gotten on the game, is that the early game is too difficult. So, I’ve changed some things. Now, enemies don’t start spawning until day 2 and enemies in general have been made easier. This includes how much damage they deal, movement speed and attack speed. The way enemies are spawned, has also been changed.

Hunger and thirst, now decrease at a slower rate. And HP recovers slowly over time.

Night time is no longer completely dark and during the night there is a dim blue light.

Other changes

Queue slots no longer have a limit on their stack. So, they don’t take up more space in the crafting queue. And the crafting recipes outputs now have stacks (previously they were all stacked to 1).

When picking up items from the ground or resources, there is no longer a requirement for the player to face the item or resource. The player automatically rotates towards it.

Bandages are now cheaper.

There is a new system in the game that displays errors on screen. If there is a bug or an issue with the game, an error will display in the top left corner of the screen. If you get one of those errors, if you want, you can report it, by either posting a screenshot, or just posting the text. I will try to find a better way of bug reporting in future updates, but for now, this will do.

New items in this update

And for the next month the Crimson tree will look a bit different.

Future updates

This is just a summary of the more prominent changes, but there are other new things in this update, as well. The early game needed to be addressed, since so many new players just quit the game after getting killed on the first day.

Now that ranged weapons, planting, early game fix and save game compatibility have been implemented, moving forward, the updates will focus more on new content and QOL improvements.

If you run into a bug or issue or have some feedback, let me know. Have fun during the holiday season and have fun playing.
