How to join the playtest

If you’re not in the playtest yet, you have two ways to join.

  1. You can register for access on our Steam page. We admit players in waves before the playtests begin.

  2. You can join our Discord and ask for an invite in the #-invite-sharing channel. Our community has plenty and can provide you with a link for instant access.

Production servers, account wipes, and what comes next

We shared the plans for this in our last dev update, but now it's official. We’ve migrated to production servers in order to accommodate our growing community.

The downside is that this required an account wipe. We know progression wipes are never fun, so here’s what we gave players to help soften the blow and get you back close to where you were quickly:

  • 75k SLVR for each unlocked tank (excluding the starting 4)

  • 4 Pilot boosters for each level 20 tank (which will get you back to level 20+)

  • Owners of these cosmetics get them granted again:

    • Lucky Duck

    • Blue Explosion Kill VFX

    • Lightning Recall Style

    • Hardlight Healer Style

    • Cybertechnic Wall Style

The good news is that we’re going to start inviting more new players into the playtest from our growing waitlist, and we’re working hard to ensure this the only wipe we’ll need.

Introducing the Alpha Program

You’ll notice that some of our in-development tanks are now marked with an Alpha Program symbol. What is that?

Like I mentioned above, with the move to production servers, we’re going to start letting more new players in from our growing waitlist, and we want to make sure they get a good experience by focusing them on the tanks that have already had a full art pass.

At the same time, feedback from you early playtesters has been instrumental in helping us improve our in-development tanks, and we want to make sure we can hit that high level of iteration going forward.

That’s where the Alpha Program comes in.

Here’s how it works

  • In-development tanks will be marked as Alpha Program-only

  • Players in the Alpha Program will be able to use Alpha Program tanks in Standard, Custom, and Sandbox games, but not in Ranked modes

  • All existing playtesters as of our last playtest are grandfathered into the Alpha Program

    • If you played Tyr on or at any point before March 28th, 2026, you should see no difference in experience except that you now instantly have access to those Alpha tanks instead of needing to unlock them

  • New players can join the Alpha Program by clicking the Alpha Program button in the tanks menu

  • In order to join, players must first have unlocked 10 tanks and then join the Tyr Discord server by linking their Discord account

  • This is an opt-in program with the expectation that players joining the Alpha Program will help us by providing feedback on our in-development content

  • As a heads-up, we will cycle tanks in and out of the Alpha Program as new ones enter development and others are completed and added to the main roster

Tournament winners, and announcing the next one

Before our last playtest, we hosted Tyr ’s first tournament with a cash prize.

First place went to THUMBS, with second place going to Prototype.

The total prize pool was $2,000, with $1,300 going to the winners and $700 going to the runner-up team. Huge thanks to everyone who played, watched, and helped make this one happen.

Want in on the next one? We’re hosting another tournament in May. Head to the Discord to learn how to register. We'll announce the exact date soon.

That’s it for this dev update. 🫡 Is Tyr on your Wishlist yet?
