Update 1.2 has been in the works for a while and adds several new features based on your feedback.

Overview Map

Not including a map originally was a deliberate decision. That said, I’ve heard the feedback, so I spent some time experimenting and came up with a solution that aims to strike a balance:

  • An overview map that is available from the beginning

  • It gradually reveals itself as you explore more areas

  • No markers, names, player position, pins, or objectives

  • Only simple connections between areas, shown as dotted lines

The goal is to support your mental map of the world (how areas connect and how everything fits together) without turning the game into something where you’re constantly scanning a map for unexplored rooms.

Ideally, this helps reduce the frustration of getting lost, while keeping the good part of getting lost intact.

Secret Companion

This one comes directly from a community idea.

A while back, someone found a hidden room that didn’t contain much at the time. I asked for suggestions, and that sparked the idea for a small addition: a secret companion. I liked the idea so much that I implemented it. There is currently only one to find, but if you like it, who knows…

I won’t spoil too much, but:

  • It’s hidden in a well-concealed location

  • Once found, it follows you around

  • It can be toggled on and off at any time

A small, fun extra for those who like exploring every corner.

Updated Trailer

It was time to update the trailer. After several updates, including some major ones, the visuals no longer fully reflected the current state of the game.

The trailer has been updated with improved visuals and a few new clips showcasing recently added content.

New Languages

Localization support has been expanded with two additional languages:

  • Español (Spanish)

  • Русский (Russian)

As always, feedback from native speakers is very welcome. While I trust the professional work behind the translations, it’s hard for me to fully judge them myself.

Save Indicator

A small indicator now appears in the top-left corner every time the game is saved, so you can be sure your progress has been recorded.

Fixes

  • Increased the overall volume of footstep sound effects to better fit the rest of the soundscape

  • Fixed an issue where your sibling’s incorrect ghost texture would be shown

  • Fixed an issue where the teleport sound would continue playing if the player canceled early

  • Fixed an issue where the death and time label would not display correctly inside the pause menu

  • Made some optimizations to the build, resulting in a smaller install size

Sale

[dynamiclink href="https://store.steampowered.com/app/2925120/The_Pale_Piper/"]To celebrate the release of this update, the game will also be on sale.
