Now that I am writing this, I actually don’t have much changes for the Demo or Alpha builds. A lot of this update is heavily focused on polishing the full game, which isn’t bad of course. Just means that I think I’ve polished the game well enough (at least to me) for a proper demo. Luckily, the Steam page now has one! The demo will be posted here in the coming weeks, I just want to focus on that first.

The Steam Demo

The demo features the first 3 areas of the Sea, Dead Clearing, the Calming Tears, and Waveraft. And it has all the bells and whistles, fixes, optimizations that the game has as of writing. I may stop focusing on updating the demo when there's really nothing to add to it. Content-wise, I am happy with it already, so it'll mainly be just fixes and optimizations if I have to. Even then, the game is already fairly optimized to the target hardware I'm going for.

It is also planned for the save data to be compatible with the final full release of the game. So any progress you do here can continue there. If you ever just wanna grind there and destroy the Beings in the full game later on, you can.

Quests

To add a bit more exploration focused mechanics to the game, I added delivery quests. You meet a Being, asking you to meet another Being at some other place. You accept, and meet them, and you are granted an XP reward. There’s gonna be more to it, like putting it on a HUD, actual reasons to meet them like gifts and such. Most of these are repeatable, but there are a few that aren’t like story ones. This is also forces you to not use the Wind Porters.

I’ve also been doing some more fixes, some chances where players can get stuck and all that. But for the most part that is it for updates on The Harbinger of the Deep.

Stay tuned for the updates to roll out here, check out the Steam page if you can for the demo, and this has been CraftedCircuitry, signing off for now.
