The Expanse: Osiris Reborn changes
Hello, Gemini!
This is a quick guide to The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Beta gameplay.
Keep in mind that the game is still in beta, so we can’t show everything that will be in the final game yet. You may also encounter some bugs. If you do, we will greatly appreciate it if you report them via Alt+B (or press both thumbsticks on the controller simultaneously to open the Bug Report menu).
Choose your character preset
On release, you will be able to create and customize your protagonist in a character creator, and select one of 3 origins: Earther, Martian, or Belter. Right now, you can select one of 4 presets to play the Beta
Male Earther Officer
Female Belter Officer
Male Earther Hacker
Female Belter Hacker
Each character has 4 combat skill trees, 2 exploration skill trees, and 1 perk they get from their origin. For example, a Belter gets a Tekimang perk that adds +1 to all Engineering checks, and an Earther gets the Gravity’s Gift perk that adds +1 to Athletics checks.
An Officer starts with 4 points in the Shooter skill tree, 1 point in the Leader skill tree, 2 points in Persuasion, and 1 point in Engineering.
A Hacker starts with only 1 point in Shooter, but 4 points in Gadgets, 2 points in Cyber Sabotage, and 1 point in Persuasion.
So, if you want to deal more damage with guns and persuade NPCs more easily, we suggest an Officer playstyle. If you want to focus on using all sorts of gadgets and abilities they provide—go with a Hacker.
If you choose to play as a Belter, don’t freak out that all other characters seem tiny. Belters grow up in low gravity, and that’s why they are very tall. They also have their own language, and if you play as a Belter, your character will understand it, while an Earther character would not.
During the game, don’t forget to level up both your own character and your twin J.
Choose your weapons
In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, any character can fight with any weapon they like. There are 5 classes of firearms you can find:
Assault Rifles
Shotguns
Pistols
Submachine guns
Sniper rifles
You can carry one long-barreled gun and one short-barreled one on your person at the same time. You can try every weapon and see which ones you like better. Perhaps you will find that all weapons can be very helpful in different situations.

Use your abilities
In the Beta, you will find several gadgets. When you equip them, a corresponding ability becomes available in combat. For example, if you equip a frag grenade, then you will be able to throw it at your enemies. Or use Tactical Scanner to reveal where the enemies are hiding. Try different gadgets, especially when you are playing as a Hacker.
Tactical pause
When you press F (or the D-pad Up), time will slow to about 10%. You will be able to examine the battlefield in slow motion, issue commands to J, consider which abilities you would like to use, and then select them, so your character will use them as soon as you exit the tactical pause mode. Press F (or the D-pad Up) again to confirm your orders and exit tactical pause.
Workbench
In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Beta, you will be able to upgrade your weapons. To do that, you will need to collect materials during the exploration and then find a workbench.
The amount of materials is limited, so make sure you only upgrade weapons and gadgets you plan to use!

Exploits
Sometimes you will notice a marker on some structure in the environment that your companion can interact with. It means that you have found an exploit. If you order J to interact with it, your twin will blow it up, dealing a lot of damage to nearby enemies. Watch out for these markers and don’t hesitate to use them when the enemy is close enough.

Repairs and avoiding damage
Some enemies you will encounter can deal a lot of damage, especially snipers. Try to stay out of their line of sight by using covers. And if you get hit, try to find cover as soon as possible! When you avoid getting hit, your armor will restore after a short while. But if there’s nowhere to hide, use the repair foam to fix your armor ASAP.
Steam post imageIf you were downed, but J is still fighting, you can order them to help you, but J will need the repair foam to do that. So, use this resource wisely.
That concludes our little guide to The Expanse: Osiris Reborn Beta gameplay. If you still have questions, come to our official Discord server. There are special chats for Beta discussion there, and someone without a doubt will be able to answer your questions.
Happy hunting!
