The thing is, the fates of every resident of our city are not just threads, but a real web, where every decision and accident has consequences. Take, for example, the most insignificant character — a drunk who fell asleep on the pavement.

What's so special about him, you might ask? The corpse collectors mistake him for another victim of the plague, load him into a cart, and take him to the cemetery. But this is where things get interesting: on the way, he contracts pneumonic plague, the most rapid and dangerous form of the disease.

If he can be cured, he will infect his daughter, who has cared for him all her life despite his drunken antics. If not, the drunkard will lose his mind and infect a random townswoman with the “kiss of death,” and the guards will be forced to stop him the only way they know how — with bows and arrows.

This is how the project weaves itself into a single, complex tangle — and my main task as a storyteller is to not let a single thread break. After all, it would be a bitter disappointment if the “gun” hanging on the wall from the first act turned out to be unloaded in the finale.
