changedIn the previous devlog we spoke of the events of madness those inward storms that rise from fractured minds. Today, we wish to draw aside a different veil and speak of another system that demands choice: the system of random events . These are occurrences that may emerge unbidden during your journey through Terror: Endless Night , each one calling for a decision whose outcome can never be known with certainty🕯️
changedWhatever the truth of it, the sight of the creature breathed a measure of hope into the sailors’ hearts, for they began to see in its appearance a sign of the approaching end of the polar night. Even so, all logic dictated that men be sent to hunt it. Extra provisions are ever welcome, and such a chance to bring down a bear might not come again. Soon after the party was assembled, the sailors set out upon the hunt. The darkness around us seemed to thicken yet further, which ought to have stirred my misgivings; perhaps it was a warning, for the men who returned did so bearing grave frostbite 🥶 .
changedIn the end, the choice is always yours. Even the decision that seems most prudent, most humane, or most rational may yet lead to unforeseen and bitter consequences. We hope that through such a system, every voyage through Terror: Endless Night will feel like a distinct dream shaped by chance, judgment, and the quiet, watchful darkness that surrounds you👁️.

One such moment may come in the shape of a polar bear 🐻‍❄️

It is said that one swallow does not make a spring, yet today such a herald came to the entire crew in the form of a polar bear sighted not far from the ship. Perhaps it foretells a break in the weather, or perhaps it is but a lone wanderer from some greater herd that roams the desolate expanses far from here.

As captain, you may choose:

  • to consent to sending the crew out to hunt the bear🏹

  • or to forbid them from venturing forth✋

At first glance, the choice may seem simple especially when supplies run thin. Yet the matter is far from clear. Sending men into the darkness to hunt the beast may end in triumph… or in quiet disaster. A successful hunt will swell your stores of food and breathe fresh optimism into weary hearts. A failed one, however, may see the crew return broken by frost, their bodies scarred by the cold and their spirits sinking deeper into hopelessness and despair😞.

Whatever the truth of it, the sight of the creature breathed a measure of hope into the sailors’ hearts, for they began to see in its appearance a sign of the approaching end of the polar night. Even so, all logic dictated that men be sent to hunt it. Extra provisions are ever welcome, and such a chance to bring down a bear might not come again. Soon after the party was assembled, the sailors set out upon the hunt. The darkness around us seemed to thicken yet further, which ought to have stirred my misgivings; perhaps it was a warning, for the men who returned did so bearing grave frostbite 🥶.

And so one may wonder whether the wiser course is to refuse the chase entirely to deny the darkness its due. No extra provisions will grace the hold, yet morale may still lift, if only slightly, and no man will return crippled, ill, or unfit for duty🧍‍♂️.

Whatever the truth of it, the sight of the creature breathed a measure of hope into the sailors’ hearts, for they began to see in its appearance a sign of the approaching end of the polar night. Thus, though every scrap of logic argued against it, I did not send the men out to hunt. The bear soon vanished into the darkness, leaving us without any extra provisions yet perhaps with our spirits raised, if only a little… 🕯️

In the end, the choice is always yours.
