Tawa : Lost in Time changes
The past two weeks have been intense for the development of Tawa: Lost in Time. A lot of systems have evolved, some have been completely reworked, and the game is really starting to take solid shape. Here’s a full recap of everything that’s been done 👇
🌍 Scene System & Save Overhaul
Implemented a global scene management system with automatic saving of the last played area.
Added dynamic scene loading with smooth transitions between areas.
Introduced a loading canvas to improve immersion during scene changes.
Created a full reset system to restart the game cleanly (scene + progression).
🧠 Core Game Logic Improvements
Built a more reliable system to track player progression.
Started integrating a checkpoint system (including player position saving).
Fixed critical bugs related to scene loading and persistent objects.
🐭 Tawa Character Updates
Ongoing redesign of Tawa (shape, readability, and overall style).
Exploring new color palettes to better match the game’s atmosphere.
Started adding an outline system to improve visibility in the environment.
🦅 AI & Living World
Reworked bird behavior for more natural movement (free flight without fixed targets).
Updated animation control using a “flying” boolean parameter.
Exploring AI systems that don’t rely on NavMesh.
🌱 Optimization & Performance
Improved performance by optimizing static objects (especially shadows).
Reduced the impact of heavy assets in scenes.
Researching an automatic mesh simplification system.
🎮 Player Experience
Improved transitions between areas.
Enhanced immersion with better loading feedback.
Started organizing world interactions more clearly.
🎨 Assets & Atmosphere
Organized dinosaur sounds by category (roars, footsteps, attacks, etc.).
Continued work on the game’s visual identity.
Created new visual elements (including textures like dinosaur eggs).
🗺️ World Progression If everything goes as planned, Tawa: Lost in Time can now be played from start to finish. The full journey is already explorable, even if the map isn’t completely finished yet. There are still around 3–4 areas that need rework and polishing, but the core experience is already there.
📅 Upcoming Fixes A new fix will be deployed tomorrow, followed by another one on Monday based on your feedback. Your input is extremely valuable and will directly help improve the game’s stability and overall experience.
📈 Conclusion These past two weeks were mainly focused on stability, core systems, and improving the overall experience. The game is now much more structured, opening the door for more advanced gameplay features very soon.
More coming soon 👀🔥
