BLOG: Upcoming saving system

For the next update (for which we still do not have a release date, but we're well on the way with) we will be introducing a new feature that I wanted to talk about a bit, just to let you all know it's coming.

addedFor the next update (for which we still do not have a release date, but we're well on the way with) we will be introducing a new feature that I wanted to talk about a bit, just to let you all know it's coming. Due to requests for some kind of save system, we will be adding a checkpoint system to Tankenstein.
changedYou will be able to save your current run by finding garages in the world. These will return you to the main menu and save your current parts, CPUs and inventory. Progress in the run will also be saved, defeated bosses will not drop previously collected CPUs and the distance you traveled will be retained.
changedYou can resume your current run at your leisure. Your tank will be reconstructed in a new garage somewhere in the wasteland. The garage you emerge from will no longer be functional, and the distance you previously traveled will be the new minimum distance for the world, you will not be able to return to lower tier areas after reloading a run. Once you roll out of the garage the same rules apply as before; if your tank is destroyed the run will end.
changedGarages spawn roughly every 2000m. They may appear in compounds, cities or just as derelict buildings out in the wastes. They will be visible on the radar, but you can also spot them from further than that if you know what to look for.
changedTankenstein was designed with permadeath in mind. The game rewards going up against the odds to earn as much scrap as you can and spending that scrap on permanent upgrades is only possible at the end of each run. However, we also recognise that sometimes you need to put the game down and it would be nice to be able to continue later. So, a checkpoint system gives an option to save and continue later, while retaining the design philosophy of the game.

The checkpoint system will be available in the "Survival" update. And we're hard at work to get that update to you as soon as possible.
