Development on the third of our five planned planets—the lush, treacherous Jungle Planet—is officially in full swing. This environment has been a blast to build, offering a vibrant contrast to the more desolate landscapes we’ve visited so far. Here’s a breakdown of what’s new in the latest build:
Environmental Interaction: Destructible Flora
To make the jungle feel more alive and reactive, I’ve implemented a new system for destructible plants. Beyond just aesthetics, these serve as a playground for players to experiment with their weaponry.
Visual Feedback: Plants now sway, break, and disintegrate based on impact types.
Utility: Some destructible elements may hide secret paths, resources, or provide tactical cover during combat encounters. It’s a small detail, but it adds a satisfying layer of tactile immersion to the traversal.
PowerSuit Evolution: New Collectibles
Exploration on the Jungle Planet is more rewarding than ever. I’ve integrated a suite of new items and resource nodes specifically tied to PowerSuit progression.
Functional Upgrades: These materials aren't just vendor trash; they are required components for upcoming suit modules.
Incentive: The more you scour the dense foliage, the more likely you are to stumble upon rare tech fragments needed for significant stat boosts, encouraging players to deviate from the main path.
Aesthetic Overhaul: UI Refresh
The user interface has received a significant polish. The goal was to align the UI's aesthetic with the game’s overall sci-fi tone while improving readability and ease of use.
Modernized HUD: We’ve moved toward a cleaner, more minimalist layout that keeps vital information front and center without cluttering the screen.
- Dynamic FeedbackThe updated inventory and upgrade menus are more intuitive, featuring better iconography and smoother transitions, making the management side of your journey feel more seamless.
Hostile Inhabitants: Jungle Encounters
The primary focus of this week was finalising the enemy AI and behaviors specific to this biome. The wildlife here isn't just aggressive—it's adaptive.
Ambush Tactics: These enemies utilize the environment, using the dense canopy to stalk the player before striking.
Combat Diversity: Each creature has unique patterns, forcing players to cycle through their weapon types rather than relying on a single strategy.
Help Me Name the Jungle!
I’m hitting a creative block on the official name for this planet. I’m looking for something that captures the essence of a mysterious, dense, and potentially dangerous jungle.
What are your thoughts—do you have any suggestions for a name?
