Features

What better way to celebrate Carl’s Spring Break than with the addition of a brand new, tropical map? Get away from the meat grind and enjoy a semi-relaxing work trip to sunny Lava Del Rey!

Gameplay

  • Enemy Health over time: all enemies gain 2% max health for each minute spent in the run. Spending more time on early planets makes the whole run harder!

  • This is offset by reducing the difficulty ramp-up when completing a planet.

  • Added a new Artifact called “Sheriff Carl” that calls in Carl, who pilots a mech to reign pain on your enemies, especially the Hunters, whom he will target with a vengeance if they are around. There’s a new sheriff in town!

  • Leveling up now increases all damage dealt by player, not just from Meat Abilities

  • Slowed down player leveling by increasing XP thresholds

  • We’ve altered the reward schedule for leveling up slightly, weapons and mutations are now unlocked slightly sooner.

  • Reduced some rewards from completing Carl Quests, Upgrades and Smart Meat Grid

  • Rebalanced enemy spawning logic

  • Overall fewer enemies on lower difficulties

  • Higher-tier enemies are introduced later

  • Fixed an issue causing inconsistent difficulty scaling

  • Damaging an enemy spawner in a short amount of time will cause it to spawn additional enemies!

  • Renamed “Elite” enemies to “Shiny” enemies

  • “Shiny” enemies no longer have differing stats or behaviours from their non-shiny counterparts

  • Artifacts are now dropped from Shiny enemies only

  • Player now takes 30% less damage on Casual difficulty

  • Rangus files are now collected in world instead of on planet completion

  • Look for those video cassette tapes!

  • Tweaked random mode planet selection

  • Planets are added to the random mode pool as the player completes more planets

  • Unvisited planets are prioritized over those that have been visited

  • Tier 1 Zapper’s will no longer reposition, and Tiers 2 and 3 will only do so if below 50% health.

  • Tweaked health of some enemies

  • Meat Pugs will no longer split a second time

Mutations

  • 4 New Mutations!

  • Battery (Electric) - Each time you deal critical electric damage, your next ability gains +5% damage, stacking up to +100%

  • Hot Streak (Fire) - Each time you successfully fast reload, you will attack faster but the reload minigame also speeds up

  • Globs! (Slime) - Killing a slimed enemy has a chance to drop a Glob that you can pick up for a buff that increases how quickly you apply elemental effects.

  • Parting Gift (Kinetic) - Meleeing a Staggered enemy will apply a bomb that explodes after 3s.

  • The old “Cold as Ice” mutation has been renamed to “Happy Snowman” and has updated visuals

New Abilities

Grapple Tongue

Obtained from Looger Head – Shoot a grapple tongue to pull yourself towards the hit location

Hover Beam

Obtained from Wrangler Legs – Hover in the air while firing a powerful beam at ground targets

Animation

  • Paper Bobby got a new stagger animation

  • Sheriff Carl got v1 animations for this release

UI / UX

  • Run info will no longer be shows in the background while in Multiplayer and Options submenus

  • Mutations and their effects are now show the “Meat” tab of the inspect screen

Art

  • Added ROX-1 (AKA Roxie) model to the ship lobby. She’s now at the Galaxy Terminal

  • Added new second tier machine enemy models

Audio

  • Sheriff Carl SFX pass

  • Lava Del Rey audio support for Volcano

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where some UI textures would become blurry when lower texture quality was chosen in video options. That setting should only apply to textures on in-world objects

  • Fixed a bug that was causing the LODBias video setting not to save properly

  • Fixed a bug that was not properly deducting currencies from the player when purchasing Flair

  • Fixed bug that some large enemies' “heal out of combat“ effect was applied always, and with a huge multiplier.

  • Fixed bug where upgrade selection might not be applied if player was dead while selecting an upgrade

  • Fixed a bug that could cause players to log a huge amount of playtime to their save file. If you were affected by this bug, your save file’s playtime will - unfortunately - be reset to zero and start accumulating normally from this point forward.

  • Fixed the wording on several abilities and items where we used “Stunned” instead of “Staggered”.

  • Fixed the description of the “Flying Circuits” ability to not claim it did things it did not do.

  • Reworded “Demolitionist” mutation to be more readable.

Known Issues

  • No significant performance tuning has been done yet. If you are graphics bound, you can try lowering the quality settings in the Esc menu via Options → Video, but systems with more constrained hardware may struggle

  • Not all input buttons and keys have icons in the UI yet. Text descriptions (eg. “J”, or “Button West”) will show up for things that do not yet have an icon in the input glyph map

  • When observing other players, some UI bits such as the reload HUD don’t show accurate information for the observed player
