What's Happened?

Hello all, main dev here for the first time, usually these posts are carried out by Mr Artist.

SUGA's development became somewhat stagnant a couple of months after the last regular announcement owing to me beginning university, which ended up taking a lot more of my time than initially expected. Additionally, I've been suffering a degree of burnout on this project thanks to a few bugs being extraordinarily stubborn, alongside the increased complexity of a multiplayer game.

SUGA development is back on now however, with some good progress since returning.

What's New?

  • Floorboards have now got an independent placement and removal system to prevent interference issues with other buildable structures.

  • The core of the build system is now finished, including placement, destruction and the usage and return of materials

  • Added player character customisation allowing the recolouring of Bill's clothing and skin. This will be expanded to different clothing much later in development

  • Added in-game text chat

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed texture issues with doors

  • Rewrote the natural structure generation code fixing trees spawning inside each other

  • Thanks to the new floorboard system, floorboards now no longer cause quantum superposition of buildables both existing and not existing at the same time, which understandably crashed the game

Known Bugs

  • Some sound effects currently play for all players when they should only play for the local player

  • Hot-joining has been disabled as players spawn in without any player object

  • Players sometimes spawn in glitched inside trees
