The underwater war in Subnautic Raider has become significantly more dangerous.

Enemy warships now deploy multiple anti-submarine weapon systems designed to pressure the player in different ways during underwater combat.

What used to be simple depth charge attacks has evolved into layered underwater threat scenarios involving:

  • classic Depth Charges

  • Hedgehog anti-submarine mortars

  • SQUID guided underwater projectiles

  • naval mines

  • coordinated destroyer attacks

Each system behaves differently and forces the player to react with different evasive maneuvers and tactical decisions.

🔹 Depth Charges

Classic depth charges remain the most common anti-submarine weapon.

Their role is simple: force the player to keep moving underwater through powerful explosions at varying depths.

While predictable, they become extremely dangerous when combined with other weapon systems.

🔹 Hedgehog Mortars

Selected destroyers and warships can now deploy Hedgehog anti-submarine mortars.

Unlike traditional depth charges, Hedgehog projectiles descend much faster and then split into multiple smaller explosive charges underwater.

Each individual explosion is weaker than a standard depth charge, but together they cover a much wider area, making evasive maneuvers significantly more difficult.

🔹 SQUID Guided Projectiles

More advanced enemy ships — including cruisers and selected destroyers — now have access to the SQUID system.

SQUID projectiles descend vertically into the water, but if they detect a submarine deeper below them, they begin redirecting toward the target.

At the same time, gravity constantly pulls them downward, creating less predictable and more chaotic movement patterns underwater.

Individually, SQUID projectiles can often be avoided by fast submarines.

The real danger begins when multiple underwater threats overlap at once.

🔹 Escalation of Threats

The most dangerous situations occur when several systems attack simultaneously:

  • Depth Charges

  • Hedgehog barrages

  • SQUID projectiles

  • naval mines

  • enemy destroyer fire

Combined with convoy interception, stealth, navigation, and survival management, underwater encounters have become far more intense and unpredictable.

The ocean in Subnautic Raider is becoming an increasingly hostile place.

As usual, I’ve prepared a short preview video showing the new systems in action during a battle against enemy destroyers.
