v49: Ice Creams

Aside from the usual bugfixes and such, this update contains some more newgame+ content and quality of life features, and also adds the ice status and numerous items for inflicting it and an arcade challenge and other things and interactions relating to it. It's very seasonal given that it's just coming up to summer here.

Systems

  • Crashes that happen on screen transition that would normally CTD now wait for the start of the next frame so that you should actually get an error message.

  • Post-combat inventory auto-rearrange no longer considers empty bottles as useless if you have the alembic or retort.

  • Post-combat inventory auto-rearrange will now auto-stack stackable items that it tries to unequip.

Arcade

  • Added Iced creams.

  • 'Full random' now respects given level increase items.

  • Replaced the icons on the challenges with the ones from the achievements instead of generic class icons.

Events

  • If you have a preview effect at beggar event, you now have the option to ignore the beggar and use that to find the path instead.

  • The village attack events now check if you're a class that could normally get the engraved cuirass rather than specifically the paladin before accusing you of looting it from the paladin event.

  • If you have a level increasing item and already have the woodsman unlocked, you can now dismiss the woodsman event without viewing the shop and without attacking them.

Overworld

  • Added a new cultist intro quote.

  • Consecrating, desecrating, and reading at a shrine now takes you back there if there's still things you could do there, such as praying for power.

  • The anomaly cutscene now goes faster if you have the cultist unlocked already, and faster still if you have capital tickets.

  • Renamed walled villages to towns and the villages that are small to hamlets.

  • Capital travel can now offer combi-tickets, which offer boons at a great cost.

  • Fixed not being able to read from the profane book at a shrine in a subworld.

  • Fixed being outside chapels and churches not causing the players health and gold to display.

  • Fixed checks for gear flags not restricting status-disabled flags. This never actually mattered, but it could have.

  • Fixed the corrupt lost woods using the default generation data.

  • Campfire fuels are no longer hard coded, and are based on item data.

  • Fixed a potential exploit if you had two types of campfire fuel, where it would keep trying to take only the first kind even after you'd ran out.

UI

  • Improved the contrast on the tiredness status icons.

  • 'Owned counts' for potions now gives approx. counts in selected-bottle-size units of all potions of that type combined.

  • Fixed almanac dictionary search page not listing if a word is in the slime dictionary.

  • Replaced the icons for the award category tabs.

  • Fixed the ruby medallion tile board badly overlapping on the player inventory screen.

  • Added new key arts to the background of the start menu.

Combat UI

  • If you have too many tiles for it to display the full queue it now has ellipsis at the end.

  • The passives UI will now start hiding some less important 'combat relevant' passives if you have too many.

  • Fixed not getting tooltips for passives outside of the central 25 with an odd count or 26 even.

  • Fixed damage numbers greater than 999 text wrapping.

Combat

  • Fixed a crash if, from the cast screen, you backspace after clearing a word but before the cast UI has faded out.

  • Fixed four-of armour still being considered in estimations even if you have mundane and thus wouldn't get it.

  • Fixed some special combats, chests and events, not being affected by level modifying effects.

  • Fixed some estimates not functioning if letters that would trigger them were wildcarded.

  • Implemented freeze statuses for afflicting enemies: Freeze lowers their bleed, burn, and toxin damage by the freeze amount, and makes them lose 1 life each turn.

Enemies

  • Added new skeleton names.

  • Fire elementals and the lava slime are now weak to ice words and frost status damage.

  • Chests and mimics now drop scrap wood when they would have previously dropped firewood. It is only different in graphic and stack size.

Tiles

  • Implemented chrysocolla ice gem tiles: They inflict 4 freeze per gem on the enemy as the first tile, and give you 2 armour per gem as the last tile, which count as an arcane spells.

  • Fire spell gems now count as arcane spells.

  • Heal spell gems now count as divine spells.

  • Fire and heal gems in their given position now do their effect per gem tile in the word.

  • Serrated tiles in their given position now do their effect per serrated tile in the word.

  • Braced wood tiles at the end of the word now give 4 armour per braced wood tile in the word.

  • Fixed the 'each tile has a 5% chance of being X if you have none' only giving you tiles if they would be bronze, and also fixed them being able to give you more than 1.

  • Reworked some tooltips.

Spells

  • The 4 heal and turn undead spells are now flagged as divine, the profane spell is now flagged as such, and the rest, arcane.

  • Fixed a crash with the 4 heal cast screen preview.

  • Fixed the 4 heal spell accepting any word consisting of only 4 wildcards, even if assigned to things that aren't the same.

  • The 4 heal spell now says [Score is 0] to give extra information in the case of 0 heals.

  • Condensed and simplified the spell choosing and casting sequence, reducing duplicated checks.

  • Turn undead now explain the statuses on the cast screen.

Items

  • Reworded the description of the scroll rack to make it clearer how it functions.

  • Fixed the silver censer, gold rosary, and illuminated folio not showing up in churches.

  • Fixed degenerative porphyria not being in the capital tickets curse pool.

  • The wild ruby line items now always mark tiles as modified if they would have fallen off but didn't, even if there was no other effect.

  • The clueless wisdom effect potions; clueless wisdom, rooted wisdom, and one of the mysterious potion effects, now only affect tiles with letters.

  • Gold gains from the curse of greed are now limited to the amount of health you are missing that it could actually heal.

  • Fixed the thorned mirror highlighting when there's no word input.

  • Fixed the thorned mirror highlight considering a wildcarded letter as different from the same letter.

  • The arbitrarily expensive brick is no longer flagged as 'combat relevant'.

  • The treasure idol is now flagged as 'combat relevant', but low importance.

  • Level-bonus items are now flagged as lowest importance for displaying on the passives bar.

  • Increased the stack limit of firewood to 6.

  • Updated the descriptions of the blank necklace and blank locket to indicate that the wildcards no longer get the bonus directly.

  • Changed the descriptions of the bronze bell, werewolf dagger, and werewolf medallion to distinguish that they don't check borders.

  • The calcinatory can now create chrysocolla gem tiles.

  • The tile-fall-off effect of the ruby medallion now happens after the damage calculations of the mindfog-poison dagger.

  • Tetrahedroid gilded leaf teabag now only spawns tiles if you have free slots.

  • Rapier no longer specifies 'regular' damage.

  • Fixed the four-armour charm effect not taking spell bonus into account if it's a spell.

  • The mage-eye diamond now glows if the central column is selected.

  • Fixed a typo in the firewood gain hint.

  • Added more visual feedback for the carbon paper being active; the attack button goes blue and there's a status icon.

  • The carbon paper now dirties the tiles that it 'copies' a little, so they score only 90% of what they did before, multiplicatively.

  • You can now cancel using the carbon paper by activating it again before you submit. It also no longer saves on activating.

  • Fixed the monstrous jade.

  • The jades now highlight if an enemy is about to die rather than, in the case of the regular jade, when an enemy is dying.

  • Fixed not being able to cure the 'charm of suffixes' inactive status of the infinites gauntlet line items.

  • Fixed a typo in the description of the triple heart neckalce.

New consumables

  • Scroll of frost aura: For the rest of combat: Whenever you take damage, the aggressor takes that much freeze.

  • Scroll of ice: For the rest of combat: Submitting ice related words also inflicts freeze and gains you armour equal to the length. Once per combat, activate to get the best scoring ice word as a hint.

  • Scrap wood: Can be burned at a campfire.

New gear

  • Whale idol: Alliteration scores increasingly more; submissions score 7.5% more for each previous submission that combat with the same starting letter.

  • Staff of ice: Each random tile you get has a 5% chance of being a chrysocolla if you have none.

  • Chrysocolla walrus: Submitting an ice related word also queues a chrysocolla tile.

  • Staff of the walrus: Each random tile you get has a 5% chance of being a chrysocolla gem if you have no rubies. Submitting an ice related word also queues a chrysocolla tile.

  • Book of ice: Submitting ice related words also inflicts freeze and gains you armour equal to the length. Once per combat, activate to get the best scoring ice word as a hint.

  • Clarus: Ice words score 35% more.

  • A cold storyActivate to get an available frost-related word.

New passives

  • Amalgamate heart figurine: Increases your max health by 20. When you gain this, recover all health.

  • Pot of greed: Overkill gives you that much gold instead.

New curses

  • Spugna of penance: Whenever you cast a spell you lose life unless it's divine. You lose 1 for arcane, and 3 for profane.

  • White, cyan, orange, and black combi-tickets: Combat is 7, 8, 9, and 10 levels higher than listed.

New achievements

  • White whale: Call me Ishmael.

  • Moof: "Moof moof, I am Clarus the dogcow."

  • Iced creams: Complete "Iced creams" in the arcade.

v50: If a Tree Stomps in the Woods

Sprites

  • Added a new hair option for the adventurer.

Systems

  • Fixed the probably-obsolete mage-backdate-unlock-check function checking the old (like pre V40?) location keys for wizards towers.

  • Fixed the verbose log message for the wishing well screen.

  • Shop save data has been merged from separate files per village into the main save file.

UI

  • You can now scroll up/down on an shop item to manually scroll the description.

  • Unknown keybind functions in the config now list the key name instead of just 'Unknown function'.

  • You can now see which items are mutually exclusive in the item almanac.

Overworld

  • Fixed a case for location buttons having an out of date translation matrix from a resize they didn't see that resulted in them being out of position or even off screen.

  • Fixed some specific permutations of ability-activation blessings of the infinitives gauntlet having missing textures.

  • Sub-world exits leading to hidden locations are now also hidden until their connected event is resolved.

  • Nodes connected to wizard towers are no longer soft-forced to be crossroads unless they're in a plains biome.

  • The anomaly combat now respects area flags.

Events

  • If you leave the dream sequence event without acting, it will reduce the odds of it happening again in the future, including future runs.

  • The highwayman event and goons event now correctly gets area flags, for background elements like graves, and so on.

  • 'Hidden path' events now no longer happen at locations with sub-worlds, and in those situations instead happen at that exit within the sub-world.

  • If the goon event happens in a village you now have the option to call the guards on them instead of fight them.

  • Event text no longer specifically checks for the thorny lisp curse, and now only for the effect it grants.

Crossroads

Rewrote the crossroad function:

  • Potentially greatly improved the worst case scenario generation; 1+ instances of n(n+1)/2 to 1 instance of n^2.

  • Made the function more selective about when it creates a crossroad, and when it breaks connections. This fixes potential cases of crossroads being generated too close to other locations.

  • Fixed instances of crossroads that were next to each other but not directly connected that would have been one single crossroad prior to V48.

New enemies

  • Branchback treant.

Combat

  • Enemy armour gains are now subject to level damage multipliers rather than status multipliers.

Inventory

  • Fixed an exploit allowing you to move passives to the consumables inventory.

  • Fixed the auto-sell button not making a noise when creating the coin particles.

  • Fixed missing textures if you had more than 19 slots and a resolution that allowed more than that on the non-player screen inventory screens.

  • The inventory screen visible from non-general-store shops and reward screens is now visually coherent with the player inventory screen, and added the ability to use the next/previous tab user bind there.

  • Removed the cap on how many inventory items can be displayed horizontally on ultrawide displays.

  • Allowed inventory screens to scale how many items can be displayed vertically on narrower displays.

  • The player screen tiles tab now scales the number of items that can be displayed, and will show more with narrower boards that allow it.

Items

  • The pot of greed now counts as a greed item.

  • The greed items now explicitly state that you can't give charity.

  • You can no longer give money to the goons or highwayman event, donations at the church, or the wishing well with greed.

  • You can now activate limited resources to see what is locked to that character. This list also includes temp-craft components.

  • The silverware teacup can no longer exceed your slot count.

Stats

  • Combat stats entries now display a more accurate parallax representation including time of day and area flags.

  • Shrine and physics stats now track parallax data such as time of day and area flags and new ones made after this point will display them.
