Step into the Abyss changes
We have already indirectly touched on the topic of dialogues in our Step into the Abyss, but it was only indirect. We need to rectify this injustice. Dialogues as a system are fundamental to our game. After all, a detective's work is not only about inspecting the crime scene, collecting, and analyzing evidence, but also obtaining testimonies that people are not always ready to give immediately and honestly. Therefore, Chris will often have to press people for the truth, and the player will need to analyze the situation, compare facts, and determine whether they are being told the truth or not.
One of our main goals is to provide the player with variability in communicating with NPCs. You will always have many dialogue development options: some responses may be harmless, some may advance the investigation or bring benefits to Chris himself, but some may be fatal.
The player must always remember that they exist in an authoritarian regime, and any action or word can have consequences, not all of which are immediate. We, in turn, want to minimize our influence as creators on what happens to the player. And this does not mean that we will not guide you at all—just that we will try to do this only in the most critical places. At other times, you will be left to yourself, and only your choice will drive the plot and the further fate of Chris Mori.
In the screenshot attached to the post, you can see a piece of the dialogue interface taken from the cutscene.
