Stellar Freight: Endless Horizon changes
While we are making the final preparations before the playtest begins, we wanted to talk a little about how we approach building the world of the game.
We don’t want our universe to feel too generic, so we try to put real thought into its history and details. For example, we even have a full theory about how fuel works in our world, who discovered it, and how it became widely used. Maybe not all of this information will appear directly in the game, but we try to leave small pieces of the world’s history in quests, random events, descriptions, and other details.
We don’t know if we’ll fully succeed in creating a world people can truly “believe in”, but we are doing our best to make it feel alive. The history of factions, important figures, old conflicts, and events. We want players to slowly piece together the bigger picture by exploring the world carefully.
From time to time we’ll also share posts like this to reveal more about the lore and atmosphere of the game and hopefully immerse you a little deeper into this space adventure.
And since the ship hull is one of the most important parts of the game, today we want to introduce the Jay 14-1b the very first ship the player starts with.
Simple, but relatively reliable, this transport ship has been used for decades by small traders, couriers, and independent long-haul pilots operating on the edges of inhabited stations.
The Jay 14-1b was originally designed to be as cheap and low-maintenance as possible for small intersector cargo transportation. Its structure is easy to repair even in rough field conditions, and most spare parts can still be found on old stations and scrapyards across the galaxy.
Despite its outdated HK-12 DriftCore engine, the ship is still capable of handling long-distance flights while running on standard FerIgni-7 fuel. Its low speed and limited cargo capacity make it far from the best option for experienced captains, but its affordability is exactly why it became the first ship for thousands of pilots throughout the galaxy.
Early versions of the hull were equipped with SR-2 Barrier FG shield generators, but the system was eventually abandoned due to barrier field instability and safety risks for the crew. Most surviving models today rely on reinforced armor plating instead of energy shields.
The compact command bridge was designed for a crew of only four people, and many of the ship’s internal systems still require manual adjustments during flight. But for many pilots, this is exactly where the charm of old cargo ships comes from and every trip feels like a real journey through cold and dangerous space.
