Hello Souls!

We've been working on improving the visual atmosphere of our game, and this update makes the labyrinth darker, deeper and more immersive.

Light sources now stand out much more in the darkness. Glowing elements such as torches and lanterns pierce through the shadows, creating stronger contrasts and reinforcing the mysterious feeling while exploring the maze.

A more organic labyrinth

We also wanted the labyrinth to feel less linear and more natural.

To achieve this, we added more environmental details throughout the corridors:

  • scattered rocks and stone formations

  • roots emerging from the ground and walls

  • various elements to break up long straight corridors

These additions help the labyrinth feel less artificial and more alive.

New environmental details

We’ve also added several atmospheric details to bring more life to the labyrinth.

New environmental decals have been introduced, including glowing cracks spreading across walls and the ground. Some of them emit red or blue light, hinting at the strange energy flowing through the maze.

In several areas, we’ve added various visual effects to make the labyrinth feel more alive. This includes falling leaves carried by the wind, subtle floating dust particles, glowing effects on the bonus/malus statues, and tiny luminous butterflies drifting through the corridors.

These subtle VFX add movement and depth to the environment, enhancing the labyrinth’s mysterious and immersive character.

We will continue improving the world and atmosphere of Soul Maze as development progresses.

See you in the maze
