New Music, New Themes, New Enemy and Game Speed Reduction

This update has to be my most anticipated - ever since Slice 1 (5 years ago) I've wanted to work with Tarian Nicholas again (aka Nihtar) to bring his music into this game!

This update has to be my most anticipated - ever since Slice 1 (5 years ago) I've wanted to work with Tarian Nicholas again (aka Nihtar) to bring his music into this game! He has already created some fantastic tracks and they're now in! There will be many more to come - so let's dive into the patch notes:

New Music

  • Added 3 brand new tracks from Tarian - absolute bangers

  • Added a music selector in level details and the level editor, so you can choose which tune you want cranking along with your run

  • Added a muffling to the music on death and pause which we will test based on feedback

  • Music is per user, per level, so you can choose what music you prefer when playing or creating

New Themes

Steam post imageSteam post imageSteam post image

  • Backgrounds have now all been completely updated based on feedback to be blurred, more abstract, and way better contrast. This also allows me to create/edit them faster, which is a big win!

  • 3 new themes have been added (more soon) to add a little bit more variety

  • Weather has been modified to work better with the new backgrounds

New Enemy

  • It's early days for enemies - yet I couldn't resist putting a new one in to test it out. This new enemy (Reflector) hangs around like the enemy Resistor and then with a little warning becomes a hazard! Then after a short moment, returns to it's original form. It's quite a fun one to put in and work around as timing is key!

Level Editor Updates

  • With the new themes and music comes a much easier way to switch! Switching themes, weather or music is instant and doesn't require a re-completion of the level! So if you have some published levels, go and switch them around :)

  • Tooltips have been replaced with nameplates so you'll always know the name of the item selected

  • Slices and Jump counters are now hidden in Level Editor mode

Game Speed Reduction

  • Even though Slice Overdrive will cater directly to hardcore fans, it's important to encourage others to give it a go and have fun. So with this update I'm testing a new Game Speed Reduction that slows down the entire game (excluding the level timer)

  • This should assist younger, inexperienced or casual fans to get the most out of the game for themselves. I will be monitoring it's usefulness and listening to feedback.

Other Changes

  • Fixed an issue where new runs on levels that have been updated now resets your deaths and completions correctly so that your new runs are accurate!

  • Fixed some sound effect issues with portals

  • Enemy death effects are now longer (along the line of the slice) adding a bit more weight

  • Portal visuals have been tweaked to be cleaner

  • Fixed weather not saving correctly on level editor

  • Blocked Pause Menu when camera is zooming (deaths and completions)

  • Fixed 'back' button not working after leaving a level

  • Fixed Community List sometimes loading invisible cards

  • Removed 'Wipe Level' option for published levels to avoid large accidents with big impacts as there is no undo

Get ready for even more music to come, along with more backgrounds, enemies and items overall.
