Silkgrove changes
Welcome to the very first Silkgrove devlog!
We want you to continue being part of this journey, and we hope these developer logs will make you feel like you’re right here with us. In each update, we’ll share some of what we’ve been working on, discuss our design decisions, and give you a glimpse into how the world of Silkgrove is evolving.
As with any game in development, everything you see here is a work in progress and will change as we refine and improve our ideas. The game will continue to evolve with every step we take.
Today, we’re excited to introduce you to our mail system, new locations, and some outfits! ✨
Mail System
We are introducing a new mail system that will allow players to receive new information within the game, including quests, notices, and other updates. This feature is just a small part of the overall player interaction in the game world and does not mean we will reduce interactions with NPCs. Since Silkgrove is an open-world game, there may be some areas where you won’t encounter other NPCs. In these situations, the new mail system will be particularly useful.
New Outfits
We’re excited to reveal two new outfits coming to the game for Annie. One of them can be unlocked through the Kaari Tribe.
The Kaari: People who left the old world behind after it was destroyed. They live in small desert settlements and survive carefully. They don’t trust technology anymore and have left machines behind.
TV Heads: "Normalized" strangeness
TV Heads are old-world machines that act as small access points to larger systems.
When powered, they come alive and present puzzles. Solving them helps reactivate nearby structures, like towers, and slowly brings parts of the world back online.
The version of Heads that you see here is still an early version; these will improve as the game improves.
Environments: Melancholic nostalgia
The world you see is not procedurally generated but carefully crafted based on the game's narrative and points of interest. This is still early, as we are improving the game world and its narrative.
One of the locations in the silktown, where Annie belongs. This is a farm area where one of the major story points unfolds in the game. There are special locations we designed where you can meet new characters, visit shops, and uncover fun spots.
In the end, our goal is to create a world players want to return to, something that feels familiar, yet a little different. Calm, but with a mix of retro-future ideas and large, forgotten (or still working) machines, creating a sense of quiet, “normalized” strangeness.
That’s all for our very first devlog! If we want to see all our latest updates, make sure to join our Discord and follow our socials ✨ We’d also love to hear your ideas for other particle effects we could add!
Stay cozy & a little strange,
Chahat, Gallic Entertainment
