Shell of a King changes
The 65th update for 'Shell of a King' is here! As always, if you find any bugs, especially game-breaking ones, please let me know via the official Discord! This update is fairly large so any bug reporting is much appreciated! The full release date of April 2nd is fast approaching! I'm working hard to try to get everything done by then, going to focus my attention on sound-related stuff for the next couple of weeks. 1.2x Change List:
Major performance improvements everywhere by reducing 3D physics calculations
Major performance improvements everywhere by manually removing all unnecessary shadows (this took forever)
Significantly buff true ending Sthena. The second portion also has less invulnerability to speed up the fight.
Add many new gameobject/detail visuals around the whole map, notably in the Hall of Mistakes, Sewers, Queen's Garden, and King's Ward.
Add a new Coin Purse key item, which can be consumed for a moderate amount of coins. Notably, this item replaces previously obtained charms in NG+ and carries over.
Place 7 hidden Coin Purses around the map
Add new wall textures to the Sewer Conduit, Hall of Mistakes, Queen's Garden, and Rock Snakes boss room
Add a fire buff effect to enemy projectiles that pass through a bonfire. This is mostly for the Rat Duo boss fight
Add splash particle effects for moving through water, poison, and new tile detailing
Add attack sprites for Grand Library Elementals, Hiders, Jack in the Cubes, Necromancers, Skeleton Variants, and Morphos.
Add up and down-facing sprites for the mini scorpion
Add hide charm equipped box setting to the game options menu
Add light dimming to lights near the edge of the player's vision
Add breakable shrubs to the Meadow of Whispers
Add area signs to several of the warp teleporters
Add warp teleporter paths to the map, which can be toggled on and off
Add poison water depth to the Void Pot boss room
Add particle effects to the Rock Snakes' movement
Add particle effects to all broken flooring in the world
Add a cooler animation to the Statue of Penitence
Add particle effects to all exposed fire lighting
Add various sound effects
Add many other new particle effects
Bent Spoon now makes the player's eyes glow
Funny Bone adds a bone to the player's head
Femur Whip adds a bleeding head effect
Rat's Tail adds a rat nose and whiskers
Ashen Stake now changes sprite when in a dark area
Serpent Hunter now plays the 'bad' sound on equip
The Danger Orb status can now be viewed in the inventory
The Octahedron, Infant Sun, and Hatchling appear beside the player in the inventory
Refusing to kneel to Sthena now gets you poisoned
Nel will now give you the Bronze Shears if spoken to without having obtained them
Can now progress dialogue using the shoot key
Make fish caught by the mouth rather than the center
Sthena doors now auto-open when approached
Password door now displays a 'close' button if interact is bound to a letter, and fix buggy interactions
Make Archivist books flash when needing to be shot
Extend the Archvist final phase by 6 seconds
Improve the look of Dear Sister's slash attacks
Dear sister now teleports close to you if you run away during her circle slash
Improve Dear Sister intro cutscene
Improve performance substantially in the Dear Sister boss fight
Improve the collider placement of many walls in the Meadow of Whispers
Retile a good portion of the Queen's Garden to make it look cleaner
Surround the Red Fields with a black fog
Redesign Slime Titan boss room
Make Void Pot purple projectiles easier to see
Adjust elemental interactions in the grand library to be less chaotic
Buff coin drops of land snake variants
Make Moby run faster to the Wishing Well
Lower the healthbars of some larger enemies
Nerf Spire shot speed and make vulnerable while moving
Simply many complex shadows for performance
The loading of a save file now waits for the grand library bookcase generation to complete
Disable shooting and active items with various menus open
Remove various unused tile elements
Fix particle effects not working correctly in the Dear Sister boss fight
Fix random enemy movement running into walls
Fix some inconsistent lore wording in some item descriptions
Fix the Book of Relics map quest marker not disappearing properly
Fix Pricilla's bonfire incorrectly respawning after she leaves the first location
Fix strange Morpho pathing behavior, still is strange tbh
Fix swordfish projectile clipping the floor when far from the player
Fix music not replaying when exiting certain rooms
Fix old display settings causing weird behavior with the player's inventory display
Fix closing the map while teleporting causing a softlock
Fix incorrect room trigger sizing for the Snake Jail
Fix fishing auto reeling at max range
Fix the orb puzzle flash not working correctly
Fix font rendering with box artifacting at small values
