What changed
- Maps
- Gameplay
- Balance
Christmas is almost upon us, and that means our newest patch is almost out - The invasion has started. We have previously talked about how we have added our new AI system and made major changes to the map. This time we want to talk about our next biggest challenge: our new weapons system.
Previously, there was a lot to juggle. You needed a weapon, a suitable magazine, specific ammunition to fit that weapon and the ability to put it all together. It was complicated, messy and a bit too hectic for players, especially in close combat situations. It made it a more frustrating experience and took you out of the immersion, according to testers.
So we went back to our tried and tested method - If you don't like it, we change it as fast as possible. We want you to have a great time with the games we are developing.
The solution was to rewrite the entire weapon code for ammunition and magazines. Now we have managed to not only make a game-ready version but, more importantly, one that is ready to be tested in our playtest environment.
All you have to do now is find a weapon and have the right ammunition in your inventory. Press [R] and you are ready to take on the enemy.
With the AI and a longer loot time before the first air-raid, you will have more opportunities to find a firearm and defend yourself. We have been careful where we placed more powerful weapons early in the game. We placed the more "realistic" weapons that can be in a basement such as:
● Shotguns ● Bolt Rifles ● Pistols ● Crafted Weapons
We also have added 3 new weapons to the game:
● Mauser 96 Bolt Rifle - Used in the Swedish army during the First and Second World War. A powerful rifle with room for 5 7.62x39mm rounds. The fire rate is not the fastest but if you aim correctly it can be a one-shot-kill.
● Browning HP Pistol - A dream gun for those who collect weapons. A powerful pistol that uses 9mm rounds.
● AKA Assult Rifle - The AI’s weapon of choice. It can be yours if you manage to kill them! Extremely powerful in class with the AK4. This weapon also uses 7.62x39mm rounds.
We also made the weapons easier to use. We added a new Crosshair that will make it easier to hit people from a distance and we have also reduced the spread and recoil on all weapons. It is important to mention that all our weapons today use placeholder animations.
More weapons mean that more players will need ammunition. For now, we are still restrained as we want it to be challenging to find loot and gear to survive in the game. But we want to make it easy to understand where to find ammo.
Our new Ammunition Box!
You can find a smaller amount of ammunition in those boxes. If you are afraid that it will run out as soon as a player has been there, you can breathe easy. They are refilled automatically after a certain time. But the best chance of finding a lot of ammunition is still from Airdrops or the military sections of the shelters.
But don’t forget! A crafted Potato Gun, with the ammunition of potato with nails, is more deadly than a shotgun.
Have a great weekend and we look forward to when we can release our new patch. Keep up to date here and our social channels to learn more.
