As we approach our next playtest, we want to give you a little taste of what we've been doing for the past couple of months. We've been releasing a few tidbits here and there and we'll keep doing it until we reopen our servers for you to play (and crash!, probably) our game. Today, we bring you one of our new features for the Lair: Mutators! Whoever got far and powerful enough to challenge the Lair knows how it works: you get in with a party of up to 6 players, choose a chest for difficulty (the harder, the sweeter the reward) and then go through 5 unforgiving rooms filled with different enemies from the entire game. Well, now after each room, you and your team will have to make things a bit more interesting by picking one between two Mutator Totems. Each totem releases a different Mutator in the dungeon, and they can go from simple things like "enemies will get bigger and tougher" with the Growing Pains mutator to tricky things like "you can't go 5 seconds without jumping" with the The Floor is Lava mutator. Every game will change the mutators of choice for each room, and we'll be adding new mutators from time to time (any cool ideas?). Some of them are:
Coward's Price 😱
Backstepping applies stacks of Cowardice, which reduce the damage dealt.
Employee of the Month 👑
A random enemy in each room is empowered with double damage and health.
Wall of Thorns 🧱
Touching walls deals damage and applies stacks of Bleeding.
Split the Sky ⚡
Every few seconds, lightning hits the player’s position dealing magical damage.
The Rot ☠️
When atttacking, enemies have a small chance of generating a rot puddle that deals damage on touch.
…and many more. We’ve got 15+ mutators, for now!
REBALANCING AND TWEAKS
The Lair challenge for each Chest Tier will now adapt to the number of players in the match. We want the three chests to offer an engaging challenge choice with rewards balanced for any group size. Our goal is to make all three chests a compelling choice regardless of player count. We’ve tuned them so that smaller chests still scale well for large groups, while also making the larger chests more accessible for smaller, daring parties - if they're up to the risk. These are just a couple of the new features and tweaks we’ve been working on. Let us know what you think! Hope to see all of you raiding the lair real soon! The Tower awaits you!
