🎯 What did we test?

Welcome, Acolyte!

You finally got your hands on Acolyte, and oh boy, was it a sight to behold! We loved seeing you all crush enemies with the new Maces and War Hammers as well as playing with a handfull boons and ailments.

It was crucial for us to see how the reshaped Ailment Burst mechanic felt in the heat of combat alongside these additions. Skin customization

This was the first step towards something you guys have been claiming for a while now, and we’re so happy with the results! The Archmage’s Lair just got a whole lot more unpredictable! We introduced Mutators to add an extra layer of spice to your runs, and we loved seeing how they made the matches so much more fun and interesting!

Our main goal here was to test how these modifiers forced you to adapt your usual strategies and synergize differently with your party, and you handled it brilliantly. ✨

In fact, based on these preliminary results, we are ready to turn up the heat and make the Lair even more challenging! Beware the Archmage's comeback!

A few social numbers, FYI ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • We had OVER NINE THOUSAND!!! players in this playtest.

  • We had 402 adventurers facing the Tower at the same time. .

  • And not to compare, but... we had over 84 hours of people livestreaming Shadows of Chroma Tower on Twitch.

  • Don't forget to say "Welcome!" to the new 357 members in our Discord server!

  • We've received AT LEAST 35 tickets, and that’s without counting the messages you sent on the ask-a-dev, media and general channels. Thank you for encountering all of'em bugs! Our devs already fixed 15 of those (some of the more game-breaking ones) during the playtest. We'll take care of the rest now. 😌

  • And we also received 25 suggestions from you! (This CM of yours was pretty amazed with some of your ideas. I promise I'll advocate for some to our team. 💜)

Some other numbers... Tower's numbers ⚔️

  • Warrior was the most played class of all! And the Archanist subclass was the favorite for most of our adventurers.

    • Weaver comes right after the Warrior on the podium.

  • ATTENZIONE, PICKPOCKET! All them treasures were extracted over 105k times!

  • You all dismantled 301 thousand items. No rest for the wicked!

  • And the vile work continues... Mimics jumpscared you 58 thousand times

  • Were you the 1%? Only 551 loot goblins were encountered: 403 were killed, and 148 got to escape. Damn those sassy chests!

What about our plans? 🤔

Over the past 2 years, we’ve run 7 playtests for Shadows of Chroma Tower, and we’ve learned a lot from each one of them. Based on that, our next steps are not only about adding new content. We’ll present you some pretty new features, but we need to revisit some older systems. That said, our next big playtest might take a bit longer than usual to be live again. 🥲

We may still run at least one smaller playtest before then, mostly to stress test some new technology and see what breaks first. (Hopefully not everything, hehehe)

Here’s what we’ll do!

  • Adjust our Factions & Territories systems

  • New attribute: Luck🍀

  • Improve our Economy, Merchants & Gold

  • Balance Enemies and Difficulty Progression 📈

  • Expand Weapons, Gear and Build Variety ⚔️

  • Updating Engine & Controller support 🎮

  • Of course… fixing and polishing🛠️

  • And more! But that’s on sneak peeks. 😉

I think that’s pretty much it! We’re super happy with this playtest results and too excited for the next one.
