Serious Sam 4 changes
Hi Everyone! First of all, happy Serious Sam anniversary. The series we all love and cherish has turned 20 years old this past Sunday, and it really seems unreal. Back when the series started, I was a wee little lad, playing a weird shooter game on my friend’s brother’s PC, not really knowing that one day I was going to be here, writing about an update to the latest release. I’m sure everyone at Croteam has their own story of beginnings, but the most important story is that of support that our fans have shown us over the years. For that, everyone at Croteam will be forever grateful.
Past aside, you all know why you’re here today, and that’s to read about the latest Serious Sam 4 update. The Serious Sam 4 Update 1.08 delivers on some of our promises from the past, much-needed fixes and optimizations, and an amazing roster consisting of 19 brand new playable characters including the entire AAA team, and all notable NPCs, including the almighty Naughty Nonna! Truth is, you want Nonna in your game. You need Nonna in your game. You always did.
The definite star of the show, however, is the latest version of the Serious Editor, followed by the Steam workshop support. Of course, the editor is only available on Steam and is completely free for all owners of the base game. Our veteran community member Asdolg went as far as to create a handy breakdown/guide of some of the major additions in this version of the editor, so make sure to check it out before you start modding.
Sure enough, some mods are already available on the Workshop. Take some time to go through them and enrich your game with some very useful and fun additions like the 16-player co-op and amazing Resource Manager mods by NSKuber. Then there are absolutely useless, but very fun mods like the majestic A Thousand Miles mod by Biomech. Soulmyr made an effort to expand on the Destructions and Wounds, making the game even gorier. Then there’s the Dunes mod by the powerful noam2000 which, as he said, is a simple Dunes port with a sprinkle of SS4 on top. SEND DUNES!!1! HA-HA No? Okay. :(
Last, but not least, our Aussie lover-boy Pan made 7Smoke Racing. This mod one converts Serious Sam 4 into a racing game with both violent, and non-violent game modes, time trials, and podiums. Go, check out our latest Featured Mod article, and listen to the author explain himself in the latest edition of the Basement Chats with Yasen.
Serious Sam 4 Update 1.08 also contains a number of various fixes and tweaks, so make sure to read through the entire changelog below.
As always, we'll be looking out for your feedback and acting on it. Feel free to report any issues in the tech-support subforum, and we're always open to suggestions via forums. We'll love you even more if you join our official Discord server.
Got a fun mod to share? Maybe some fan-art or a crazy Serious Sam video you made? We'd love to take a look and share it for everyone else to see. Reach out to our community team directly via Discord, or holler at us via Twitter - @croteam, @serioussamiam, @danny_hr, and @yasenstavrev.
Much love from Croteam! Danny
Serious Sam 4 – 1.08 (591667) Changelog
What's new:
The latest version of the Serious Editor is now available for FREE to all Serious Sam 4 owners on Steam. Get your freak on!
We have added the option to enable profanity filtering. Find the "tick" in the Game Options menu.
Nonna is back in business and now operates as a playable character. Joining her is the entire AAA team including Hellfire, Jones, Kenny, Mikhail, Quinn, and Rodriguez. And to round it all up, we're actually making all of the NPCs - Anabelle, Aubrey, Brand, Carter, Dmitry, Filbert, Garibaldi, Guard, Michelle, Vermetti, Professor Kiesel, Princess - available as playable characters. If I'm counting correctly (I'm actually just copying a number) that's 19 brand new characters for you to choose from.
Damjan added a couple of new tracks. Have a listen. They’re as amazing as ever.
Performance and stability:
You guessed it – various performance improvements and optimizations across GFX APIs.
Fixed a crash that would happen when trying to change the current loading screen hint, but there aren't any hints to be displayed. I wonder if we did it by adding more hints? Seems like the easiest way to do it.
Gameplay fixes:
All enemy spawners in the final boss battle now ignore the enemy multiplier. Because you hated real fun.
Netricsa can no longer be invoked while the weapon wheel is active.
Fixed a bug where rocket launcher upgrade on Colosseum wasn't properly saved in inventory progress.
Fixed a bug where vehicle camera auto-centering wasn't working in multiplayer.
The “Toggle last weapon” mechanics will now remember the last brought-up weapon (instead of the last selected weapon). How was this even a thing? I don’t know.
Fixed a rare issue of the Assault Rifle/Pistol reloading after firing only one bullet. We thought this was the way to do it in modern shooters, but as it turns out – it’s not.
Fixed an issue with private sessions not actually being private in Survival. Go, get naughty in your locked servers.
Visual fixes:
Fixed issues with the water ripple effect in certain cases.
Fixed a bug where subtitles rendered through menu simulation (instead of HUD element) wouldn't be rendered.
Fixed a bug where subtitles were rendered without blending enabled.
Fixed a bug where white overlay from extra life gadget wouldn't disappear when cutscene starts.
Crosshair is now visible in third person when using the "Hold to aim" option.
