Hello Scribes!

The day has finally arrived. Our first major (and completely free!) content update for Scriptorium is officially live right now! We still can’t believe Scriptorium reached an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam so fast - and that’s all because of your incredible support! The best way we know how to thank you is by delivering the features you have been asking for. This update is packed with highly requested tools, further performance optimizations, some incredible new content, and familiar faces 🍌 🃏.

Without further ado, watch the official release trailer and let’s get to the details!

🃏 Special Balatro Crossover!

Let’s start with the brand new, exciting Joker guest character! Yes, you read that right. Your favorite Jimbo from Balatro is now part of Scriptorium Story Mode!

We teamed up with our friends behind Balatro for a very special crossover - Jimbo awaits you with a custom set of Balatro-flavored commissions, and he doesn't arrive empty-handed. Oh no, you have to know that a partnership of this kind is an opportunity for us to do something more than just throw a familiar face into the game.

Along with Jimbo's arrival, we are adding some in-game assets that should help you create cards of your own! You can now use brand new dedicated card-sized parchments to create medieval jokers and all other cards with brand new drawable assets and already existing sketches. We are absolutely in love with how these look, and we cannot wait to see what kind of artworks you will create!

Thank you so, so much to our incredible friends LocalThunk and Playstack for allowing us to welcome Jimbo to our game! Please give them some love and if you haven’t already, get Balatro on Steam here (but be prepared for this game to completely take over your life - don't say we didn't warn you!):

Balatro New Features Available Now!

We spent a lot (and I mean - A LOT) of time exploring your feedback, ideas, and wishes, and decided that this update should be focused heavily on giving you more creative freedom and fixing the most common issues related to using Scriptorium as a tool for creating art.

The most important part of it is, of course, the Sandbox Gallery!

You can now save, organize, and manage multiple simultaneous sandbox creations without any annoying workarounds. Basically, sandbox mode now acts almost like a proper piece of graphic software! Just imagine creating a full set of DnD cards for each character in your party or a full card deck with artworks from your favorite games - all at the same time. And you can now reopen and freely edit your finished masterpieces too! We aimed to make your scribe life easier, and this should contribute vastly to that.

Another frequently requested feature we're adding today is Transparent Background Export!

You can now export your artworks without the parchment background, just as a PNG file with graphics only. This should make your own real-world projects based on your Scriptorium artworks easier to create and print later on!

We heard your feedback about the default folder for exported works. You are now able to choose exactly where your completed works are exported, so you’re no longer tied to this one folder we chose for you. Oh, and while working on this, we also prepared a dedicated fix for the export folder issue on Steam Deck that some of you experienced while playing Scriptorium there.

New way of sharing your in-game art - introducing… copy and paste!

Yes, you read that right! To be honest, we are so excited about this feature. You can now share your art with your friends as quickly and simply as sharing a link or a text from Wikipedia article.

It works like this:

  1. You create something in Scriptorium. Let’s say - an awesome coat of arms you’re really proud of, to the point where you want to share it with a friend who also plays Scriptorium, or your Discord TTRPG group.

  2. While in Scriptorium, you select the group of assets that make up the coat of arms… and simply press Ctrl+C to copy them all.

  3. Your clipboard now contains a unique text code that you can share with anyone, anywhere. Just paste it into a Discord message or any other chat app you use to hang out with your friends, or save it as txt file to send to anyone.

  4. Your friend can then take that unique text and simply paste it directly into their sandbox mode in Scriptorium. And poof! In their game they now have the exact same (editable!) coat of arms artwork you just made. They can even continue right where you left off! (please note that doesn't work for text boxes - only for grapthic assets)

This feature opens a whole new realm of possibilities, and we’re aiming to create a place for your designs here on Steam forums and on our Discord server.

New Content & Medieval Additions

Your asset library is growing with 200+ brand-new drawable assets featuring some familiar guests - including more familiar faces from Inkulinati! Our fellow medieval characters are joining Scriptorium - welcome the iconic Traveling Frog and Pigeon to your asset library! Besides them, you’ll find a lot of new drawable elements like human body parts, geometric shapes, heraldic elements for various coat of arms, beasts and animals, frames, backgrounds, parchments, clothes, decorations, architecture, furniture… there’s quite a lot of them, and it’s hard to list everything, so check them out yourself!

Also, some of our real-world friends are joining Scriptorium as custom clients with their own commissions prepared just for you - this time we focused on amazing creators like Allie Alvis - a book historian and curator of Special Collections at the Winterthur Library, Eleanor Janega - the medieval historian behind the Gone Medieval podcast, and MJ Widomska, our dearest friend and medieval enthusiast from the YRS TRULY agency. Hello Friends, great to have you here!

Quality of Life, Tweaks & Fixes

We also spent a lot of time polishing the experience with some regular Quality-of-Life tweaks. We added a brand-new in-game feature that clearly explains keyboard shortcuts and in-game context whenever you need a quick reminder.

  • We optimized the game's startup time on HDDs and tweaked the drawable system so you can add way more elements to a single page without slowing the game down.

  • We added the Cyrillic alphabet to the text editor, improved general keyboard shortcuts, and introduced several text editor tweaks.

  • Visual Cleanups - enjoy fresh visual tweaks to the morning letters, the resource screen, and the challenge screen. We also made the mystery box open by default in certain scenarios.

We also improved keyboard support across the game and added options to manipulate your drawable elements using just your mouse. To make things even easier, the game’s Scribepedia now contains all necessary info to help you master your Scriptorium experience and create even better artworks. On top of that, we placed helpful tooltips right in the manipulation bar, so you know exactly what’s what. Quite a few of you have been asking for these changes, so we hope it makes creating your masterpieces much more intuitive and smoother!

We have also bundled in various other assets and post-launch fixes to make the game as stable as possible. The update should download automatically through Steam. So fire up the game, check out the new Sandbox Gallery, and show us your medieval cards! As always - let us know what you think in the comments!

Oh and last but not least - for the next two weeks Scriptorium is on sale here on Steam! So if you have waited to get the game, now is the perfect time to do so, and save 20% in the process!
