Hello SCP-Lovers!

This month began with solving an issue, namely how unreliable and wonky it felt to experiment on SCP's. We believe that we've found a solution that fits neatly into the gameplay loop we are trying to establish.

Previously we had a different room-type per SCP:

  • SCP-173 had a room titled "Containment-Room SCP-173",

  • SCP-106 had one titled "Containment-Room SCP-106",

  • and so on...

All of these would clog up the screen when selecting a new room to paint, so we scrapped it! Instead we created three different rooms based on the physical scale of the SCP's:

  • Small Containment Cell,

  • Medium Containment Cell,

  • Large Containment Cell.

We also knew we wanted to give the player more options to be creative with how they can customize the containment-procedures of each SCP. The tricky part was to avoid randomizing the correct "set" of procedures and to give some variety each time you play through the game.

First we created three "procedure-slots", allowing you to pick from a roster of different ways to keep the anomaly contained. You will be able to counteract how often an SCP breaches based on these-

-and secondly, we introduced four different resources: Morale, Security, Knowledge & Secrecy. The ratio between these impacts the effectiveness of the containment procedures you pick. You acquire these resources alongside the skills you unlock in the skill-tree.

All the major developments this month

  • Added cursor tooltips to clarify different 3D & 2D-elements when hovering them

  • Added durability to stoves, doors & crematoriums. Usage of these structures decreases their durability.

  • Added corpses, body-bags and crematorium personnel

  • Huge performance improvements (also fixed an issue with the game loading slowly on bigger sites)

  • New graphics for maintenance personnel, stove, freezer, sink, lounge sofa, long table and more.

  • Camera now focuses when bigger actions occur (SCP breached, calling MTF, GOI-raid, etc.)

  • Made workers have a little more self-preservation, but not too much ;)

  • You can no longer exit build mode without all SCP's having a containment cell

  • You can now fire workers

  • Notifications have been split into two categories, temporary and persistent. At top-center of the screen the temporary notifications will appear (deaths, missing money, etc). And at the top-right you will see the persistent notifications (major facility issues, breached SCPs, research applications, etc.)
