Saveseeker is joining #TurnBasedThursdayFest! This event is the perfect opportunity to reveal the basics of Saveseeker's turn-based combat system, which you'll be able to experience yourself in the upcoming demo featuring Chapter 1: The Badwoods. Learn all about Emmer and Tipple's abilities in battles and how they work alongside the abilities of ex-bosses you will recruit on your adventure!
Emmer Edette—The Time Tweaker
Emmer begins her quest with a simple set of combat options: attacking with her trusty slingshot, using an item, or fleeing the encounter. Her slingshot can be upgraded throughout her adventure or given special effects with ammo you can purchase in shops. All in all, she begins as a standard RPG hero, albeit a little weaker as she's just a kid. (Why is she facing off against Badsquirrels? Well, a particular Hero cleared out all the Badwolves around to 'level up' faster, leading to an overpopulation of these vicious critters.)
But following the tutorial battle, she unlocks the unique ability "Time Tweaker", which allows her to manipulate time in battles. This includes reversing damage dealt to herself or an ally in previous rounds, delaying an enemy's turn, and lowering the charging or cooldown time of a boss ally’s most powerful moves!
Don't like the direction the battle is going? No soft resetting needed! Emmer can also use this ability to jump back to her most recent overworld save point/"Save Stop" during battle, allowing you to restart the encounter within the game. (And maybe someday, when she's as strong as her father, she’ll be able to create Save Stops within a combat encounter...)
Tippleton—Support N' Sip
Tipple is a magical toy dragon. He can't fly, he can't breathe fire, and he needs Emmer’s help to move around—but he's a protective ally in battle, capable of buffing your attack and defense or debuffing those of an enemy. Years of childhood tea parties-turned adult tavern visits helped him discover a unique power he refers to as his "Sipper" ability. Throughout your adventure, you can purchase different beverages for Tipple to drink during his turn, enhancing his Buffs or Debuffs.
Above is an Autumnal Cider in action, which increases the strength of Tipple’s Buff or Debuff by 25%. A warm mug of Hot Chocolate prevents the Chill status condition from effecting the buffed ally, while a cold glass of Eggnog inflicts Chill on an enemy alongside a Debuff. There are over 15 different beverages you can purchase on your quest, offering plenty of opportunities to try out this ability and make Tipple a lot more than a snarky sidekick!
Taum Clawber—The Whiskered Wrecker
The ex-boss of the Badwoods, Taum is a powerhouse addition to the party. His arm may be injured from his fight with the Hero, but he still carries the strength of a boss with pride. He can knock out most standard enemies with a single swing of his hammer—though he needs a turn to charge up before springing into action.
If you don't want to wait, try activating his "Feline Fury" ability, which cuts the charge time of his attacks in exchange for lowering his defense.
Taum and Emmer can also work together! Every few rounds, Emmer's Boss Buddy action becomes available, allowing her to act alongside a boss for a powerful combined effect.
A dynamic turn-based combat system forms the basis of all enemy encounters in Saveseeker, and we can't wait for you to try it out in the upcoming demo! Be sure to check out our Bluesky and Twitter this week for a preview of the battle music, as well.
At the end of this event, we'll post a development update on all the key milestones we've hit in the past six months, so stay tuned!
