Rumbral changes
From the beginning, we wanted the world of Rumbral to feel heavy, quiet and slightly unsettling.
Many of the environments are large, empty and surrounded by fog. Structures appear abandoned, broken or partially swallowed by nature. Instead of filling the world with constant action or noise, we chose to leave space for silence and stillness.
Lighting also plays a big role. Most areas are built around cold tones and soft contrasts, creating a sense of distance and isolation. The fog helps unify the environment visually, but it also hides what lies beyond, making the world feel uncertain and mysterious.
Scale is another important element. In many places, the character moves through spaces that feel much larger than they should be, reinforcing the feeling of vulnerability and solitude.
Together, these elements shape the emotional atmosphere of the game. The goal isn’t just to build a place the player walks through, but a world that feels strange, quiet and sometimes oppressive.
In Rumbral, the environment is not only where the story happens. It’s part of how the story is felt.
