ROVA changes
V0.5.0 Release + Next Fest
Hey all - Tom here!
It's Steam Next Fest, which feels like the perfect time to drop ROVA's latest update!
It's been a while since the last one, so let's chat about what we've done to the world...
WORLD IMPROVEMENTS
As I'm sure you'll expect, there have been plenty of changes to the world. Pretty much every location has been updated in some way! Expect to find new creatures, layout changes and plenty more objects to photograph / research!
COLONY IMPROVEMENTS
The colony base has had a layout change, with new buildings added (and more on the way in future releases). Each building now has their own terminal, where you'll be able to pick up relevant quests throughout the full game.
Building interiors have also been updated to contain examples of objects you may encounter whilst exploring.
Colonist Costumes
Colonist costumes are now unlockable, with outfit pieces hidden around the world.
Check out our video series "Comments to Costumes", where you can suggest your ideas!
UPDATED TUTORIAL + QUESTING + DIALOGUE SYSTEM
Our core systems have been completely reworked (again).
Dialogue System
We have put a lot of work into the new dialogue system, re-writing it from the ground up. This doesn't impact you directly right now, but future content updates will be much faster to create as a result.
Conversations can now include multiple characters. Be prepared for some future banter between the colonists.
Questing
The quest system has also had a complete rework, tying it directly with the dialogue system.
Quests originally felt a bit 'fetch-questy', something a good number of people voiced.
So we had a long think..
Then another think.. until we finally came up with a better design.
With the exception of the Tutorial, quests (or research projects, as we call them) are now designed to react to your discoveries.
You discovered a cool creature..?
The colony will definitely want to learn about it!
We plan to give colonists something to say, and assign research projects for most of your discoveries.
For this demo, expect to see a few examples.
Community Feedback
With so many large changes in this update, there's a good chance you might find something we have missed.
If you do have any future feedback, the best place to share it is in the steam community forums.
As always, community feedback has played a really important role in ROVA's development. Your support means the world to us🪐
Feel free to share your ingame photos with any of our socials - We'd love to see what you discover! Steam post image
