RECESS DEMO UPDATE

Quick Overview

  • Added player names and “It” indicators • Player names currently work for the first local player only • Starting colors are now free • Added new SFX and VFX throughout the game • Fixed the Chalk Bomb item • General gameplay polish and improvements

The school has officially approved several new “safety improvements” for the playground. Unfortunately, this mostly means it is now much easier to identify who just launched a dodgeball directly at your face.

NEW GAMEPLAY INDICATORS

Students are now required to wear visible name tags during matches, helping players identify teammates, rivals, and whoever is currently “It.”

At the moment, player name tags are supported for the first local player only while playing split-screen locally. Expanded support will come later.

Players with special roles, such as “It,” now also have clearer gameplay indicators to make chaotic rounds easier to read.

STARTING COLORS ARE NOW FREE

After receiving several completely reasonable complaints from students, the school board has decided to unlock the starting colors for everyone.

You can now start matches using your preferred color immediately without needing to unlock anything first.

NEW SFX & VFX

This update adds a variety of new sound effects and visual effects throughout the game.

Gameplay interactions should now feel clearer, stronger, and more satisfying overall. Hits have improved feedback, effects are more noticeable during matches, and the playground is now officially much louder than before.

CHALK BOMB FIXES

The Chalk Bomb has been repaired after multiple incidents involving suspicious amounts of airborne chalk.

Its effects should now behave much more reliably during gameplay.

GENERAL GAMEPLAY POLISH

  • Improved gameplay clarity during rounds • Improved player feedback during matches • Cleaned up smaller gameplay issues and inconsistencies • General polish and balancing improvements across the demo

Thanks to everyone playing the demo and helping test the game while recess continues to become increasingly unsafe.
