Primus Devlog #5: Releasing 11 Animals Into My Game To Cause Mayhem

Hey guys, So, I’ve been diving deep into Roman history, well, asking Gemini about it, to figure out exactly how many toothy, clawed beasts I can legally (and technically) cram into a tile-based arena.

Repeated intro

Hey guys,

What changed

0 fixes2 additions0 changes0 removals
  • Gameplay
  • Events
addedThe Great Ability Overhaul: Realizing that moving to tile-based combat means I have to go back and rewrite almost every gladiator ability and passive I’ve already built so they actually play nice with the new movement system.
addedRelease the Beasts: I’ve added 11 different animals including lions, tigers, and even elephants with archer towers. I also implemented a new crowd event system where the audience can randomly decide to "Release the Beast" mid-match to spice things up.

In this devlog, you’ll see:

  • The Great Ability OverhaulRealizing that moving to tile-based combat means I have to go back and rewrite almost every gladiator ability and passive I’ve already built so they actually play nice with the new movement system.
  • Release the BeastsI’ve added 11 different animals including lions, tigers, and even elephants with archer towers. I also implemented a new crowd event system where the audience can randomly decide to "Release the Beast" mid-match to spice things up.
  • The Glitchy Gate: I tried using AI video generation to create cinematic animal entrances. The lion looked great, but the way the arena gate opened was so physically "weird" and broken that I’m still debating if it’s a feature or a bug.
