changedOn Saturday I took Positron in to the heart of Huddersfield and again participated in Get Your Geek On, a comic-con style festival event that takes over the town centre for the day, with activities, cosplaying, market stalls, games, and more for geeks and families to enjoy.
changedTogether with a few other local indie devs, and some representation from the local university, we demoed our games at The Warehouse on Zetland Street throughout the day. There were table-top arcade machines available too for free-play, which proved quite popular. I had a triple set up again which has become common for my event presence. Laptop on the table, another laptop hooked up to one of the venue's large screens, and a Steam Deck. I had three people playing simultaneously for most of the day, which is always good, but is very tiring. Spending most of the day talking to people, making sure people don't hog the game too long, cleaning the equipment, and ensuring everyone playing the game has fun.
changedIt was nice to see some familiar faces of people I've met over the last two years of attending this event. Some families came again with their kids to play the games.
changedSteam tells me two people bought the game over the weekend, which I assume are a direct result of attending and exhibiting, which is always nice. If you have recently bought the game, please do remember to leave a review. Review counts are incredibly important for 'the algorithm', and the more we get, the better our changes are of increased visibility throughout the Steam Store.
addedA brand new track added to the custom in-game soundtrack.
addedAll new levels - New introductory 'tutorial' levels and a rejig of the level ordering.

People played a mix of modes, swapping between Maze and Snake. I wasn't yet ready to demo the Arena mode, but I'm pushing ahead with the final few tweaks to get this pushed to Early Access in the coming weeks.

I think one person playing may also have been convinced to go buy a Steam Deck after playing the game on mine too.. this wouldn't be the first time! Positron is a perfect Steam Deck game. Simple controls, great visuals, and it runs incredibly well on the device. If only I could get that Steam Deck Verified badge on the game! (I do believe to be eligible for that, I need players who play the game on Steam Deck to actually leave a recommendation that it runs well on their Steam Deck. There is a prompt for this on the game page in your library on Steam Deck after you play the game).

We had loads of great feedback, and the sticky notes are always a nice fun way to get some additional interaction with everyone that plays, and I encouraged most people to take a sticker after leaving feedback too (I'm almost completely out of stickers now).

I have a pretty hefty update to push to Steam in July, which brings with it some changes:

  • Arena Mode - Battle against AI controlled opponents in a 3 minute deathmatch.

  • Splitscreen Snake - Compete against a friend in Snake Mode.

  • A brand new track added to the custom in-game soundtrack.

  • All new levels - New introductory 'tutorial' levels and a rejig of the level ordering.

  • 15 new achievements - Adding the first batch of proper achievements to the game.

  • New and improved particle effects.

  • Performance optimisations for lower end hardware.

  • Improvements to trail rendering and general effects.

I have a lot going on at the moment, but I'm trying to find time to work on the game when I can, and hope this next update gives me a bit more motivation to keep working on the game in my mornings/evenings/weekends whenever possible. Please do share screenshots from the game, join the Discord, chat on the discussion boards, etc. I'm here to engage with fans and want to know what you like (or dislike) about the game :-).
