Plains of Pain changes
Custom World & Difficulty Update v0.8.3
Today we are proud to release one of the most requested updates from the community.
From the very beginning of Plains of Pain development we promised ourselves one thing. This world would not be shaped by developers alone. It would be shaped together with the community.
Over time we heard you. Many of you love the hardcore survival experience exactly as it is. But many others asked for flexibility. Some players want a relaxed experience. Some do not have unlimited time to spend in the wasteland but still want to enjoy the journey.
So we listened.
Even though this meant postponing parts of our original development timeline, we decided to move forward with this feature earlier than planned. Because you matter to us and this game is something we are building together.
Today we introduce the Custom World & Difficulty Settings system.
Players can still choose from the classic difficulty presets, but now you also have the freedom to configure the world exactly the way you want it.
And this is only the beginning. As development continues, we will keep expanding this system with more adjustable features, advanced settings, and additional presets.
Custom World Settings
With the new system you can modify many aspects of the world when creating your game or server.
This allows you to shape the wasteland experience to match your preferred style of play.
Whether you want a relaxed sandbox experience or a brutal survival challenge, the choice is now yours.
World Events
You can now control major world events.
Settings include:
Enable or disable Meteor Shower
Enable or disable Overheat event
Enable or disable the newly introduced Horde event
Economy
The trading system can now be customized.
You can disable Dynamic Economy and return to the classic trader system where each trader has a permanent inventory
When using Dynamic Economy, you can configure the guaranteed deal duration from 5 to 30 minutes
Base Building
Builders now have much greater freedom.
Adjust building material cost
Enable the most awaited feature of No Cost Building mode
Disable sector build limits for unlimited construction
Disabling the build limit allows players to create massive structures. However, extremely large builds may affect performance and stability. Use this option responsibly.
If you build a gigantic wasteland fortress stretching across half your sector, we salute your dedication.
Loot
Loot can now be fully customized.
Adjust loot chance ratio to increase or decrease the chance of rare drops
Adjust loot amount to control how much loot appears in general, including both rare drops and regular loot sources
Map
You can reveal the entire map if you prefer a more exploration friendly experience.
Combat
Combat difficulty can now be adjusted in several ways.
Enemy resistance which increases their health pool but does not increase their armor
Damage taken which controls how much damage the player receives
Enable the most awaited feature of keeping your inventory and gear after being taken down
Set gear persistence time which controls how long dropped equipment remains in the world from days to infinite
Survival
Environmental difficulty can now be configured.
Environmental damage such as heat and extreme weather
Food and water pressure
Fall damage
Skills
Skill progression can now be customized.
Experience gain ratio
Skill points received per level
Skill reroll points per level
Vehicles
For players who prefer a more relaxed experience you can now enable:
No fuel consumption for vehicles
Faction Wars & Settlement Defense
Settlement and outpost defense can now be customized.
Configure how many enemies appear in each wave
Adjust the time between waves
Enemy waves are also influenced by settlement population.
For example:
Low population settlements will attract weaker enemies such as basic lowlifes
Fully populated settlements will attract stronger enemies such as Low Life Brutes or Yes Man ballgun units
This system already exists in the game but will be expanded further.
In future development we want to go much deeper with wave presets and raid variety. For example, instead of mostly lowlife focused waves with a bit of bandits mixed in, we want to add dedicated presets such as full bandit waves, different enemy mixes, and more specialized attack patterns.
We also plan to introduce new settlement buildings that increase the population cap beyond 15, allowing advanced production buildings but also attracting much stronger enemy attacks. This means players will need to harden their settlement defenses with stronger walls, towers, and more careful planning.
This part of the game has huge potential and we cannot wait to expand it further.
What Comes Next
Our next focus will move toward Dev Tools and Creative Mode.
These tools will allow players who enjoy sandbox experimentation to freely explore mechanics, build creatively, and test the limits of the world.
We will also introduce server administration tools that allow dedicated server owners to better manage their communities. This will include features such as moderating disruptive players and adjusting server settings more easily.
