Welcome back to the Pendulum Meadows Gazette! As winter settles in, I want to talk about something I've been wrestling with for weeks: the beat indicator. It's proven to be quite the challenge. My goals are clear: make the beat visually intuitive and deliver satisfying feedback after each keystroke. The current version needs work on both fronts, so I've been experimenting with several approaches. Let me walk you through what I've tried.

#1 Enhanced Beat Indicator Sizing : I increased the size of the square in the four-square beat progression indicator—the one you're supposed to type on. The goal was to make it more visible at a glance. While it's not a dramatic improvement, it's a decent interim solution that helps. I'll keep trying different variations to find what works best.
#2 Clearer Judgment Feedback System : I've overhauled how typing judgments are displayed. Previously, everything was shown with an 'X' shape—just different sizes depending on accuracy. It wasn't intuitive enough. Now I've split it into three distinct visual cues:
Wrong: Off-beat inputs are shown as a triangle
Correct: On-beat inputs are shown as an X
Miss: Missed inputs are shown as "?"
#3 VHS Effect for Special Letters : For certain special letters, I wanted to create that explosive, impactful feeling. So I added a VHS glitch effect accompanied by subtle noise audio. I designed it so that each letter naturally creates varying levels of intensity for the player, adding dynamic flow with peaks and valleys to the typing rhythm.

#4 Game Curation & Creator Banner : As I mentioned last time, I've been curating some games—not a huge collection yet, but it's been genuinely enjoyable. While I was at it, I also created a creator banner. I'm looking forward to sharing more exciting indie game discoveries with you.

The improved beat indicator isn't finished yet. I'll keep refining it until I can clearly deliver on both goals: making the beat visually intuitive and providing satisfying keystroke feedback. If you stick around to watch this evolution, I'd truly appreciate it.

As I mentioned earlier, winter is coming. Bundle up and stay warm so you don't catch a cold. And as always, I hope you continue enjoying indie games with joy.
