Dear Abbots and Abbesses!

We are incredibly excited to announce that the demo for Monastery: Ora et Labora is officially live and ready for you to play right now!

Monastery Ora et Labora Demo

Over the past few months, we ran two playtests to see how the game was shaping up. Firstly: a massive THANK YOU to everyone who participated! Your feedback, bug reports, and suggestions were incredibly helpful and directly shaped the build you are about to play today.

In this demo, you can manage your monastic community and build your monastery following the instructions of Prior Teodobaldo. In detail, in this demo you can:

  • Manage a group of monks, each with unique traits that influence their work and behavior

  • Grow wheat and barley

  • Produce mead and two different types of beer

  • Cook and craft essential goods such as soup, bread, honey, and beeswax

  • Welcome worshippers during mass at the monastery

  • Fulfill requests from the local community

  • Face an adverse event: drought

  • Trade resources and goods with merchants

  • Unlock one monastery expansion area

  • Customize your monastery with a variety of decorative items

A Quick Note on the State of the Game

As we are planning to release the game in Early Access this year, we wanted to get the game into your hands as early as possible.

While the game has improved a lot since our initial playtests, please keep in mind that this is still a work-in-progress build. There are features that are currently incomplete, missing, or just not quite where we want them to be yet. You might still encounter a few bugs, balancing quirks, or rough edges along the way.

However, this demo is not just a one-off release! We plan to keep updating the demo as the game is being developed with patches, tweaks, and improvements based on your feedback until the game officially launches.

We need your feedback!

Whether you are a returning playtester or starting your monastic journey for the very first time, your feedback is vital for us. We want to know what you love, what you hate, and what you’d like to see improved.

Here is how you can help us:

  • Join our Discord: This is the best place to chat with the dev team directly, report bugs, and share your thoughts.

  • Steam Discussions: You can also leave your feedback here.

If you enjoy what you play, please consider adding the game to your Wishlist! It is the single best way to support us and ensure you don't miss our Early Access launch.

Thank you so much for playing, and have fun!
