This patch brings:

  • 48 new cards

  • 3 new Books (Spirits, Bones, Flesh)

  • 6 new keywords

  • 10 new Boons designed around Tome builds

  • New achievements

  • Bugfixes and improvements across the board

New Content: Tome

An offhand category built around spellcraft, timing, and scaling. Tome rewards players who plan two or three turns ahead and punishes those who burn through their hand.

New Keywords

Ward

Absorbs 25% of incoming damage. Every time Ward negates damage, gain 1 Malice.

Malice

A stored resource used exclusively by Tome cards. Malice does nothing on its own. It is consumed by Release effects.

Release

Consumes all current Malice and enhances a card effect based on the amount spent. If Malice is generated later in the same combat, future Release effects work normally.

Page X

Some abilities only activate when your Tome reaches a specific Page number. Pages begin at 1 each combat and advance through card effects.

Left/Right

Certain Tome cards require choosing a side and will have different abilities based on the side chosen.

Rot

A new debuff. Rot prevents healing and deals 3 Health loss per other DoT or negative effect on the target each turn. Rot cannot stack.

New Items

Book of Spirits

At the start of every turn, gain a Turn the Page card.

Book of Bones

Consume all Malice at the start of turn. For each Malice consumed, gain 5% Critical Chance this turn, critical hits gain bonus effects, and if Thorns are active, consume them up to the target's remaining Health for bonus damage.

Book of Flesh

Inflict Rot on enemies that hit your Ward. If Rot would be reapplied, instead increase all existing DoTs and negative effects on that target (excluding Stun and Chill), then gain 1 Malice.

New Utility Card: Turn the Page

A zero-cost Tome skill that lets you align powerful Page-based effects.

  • Exhaust

  • Reduce Page by 1 or

  • Increase Page by 1

Used to precisely align powerful Page-based effects.

New Cards

48 new cards have been added to the game.

New Boons

Ten new Boons designed to support Tome builds:

  • Spite

  • Husk

  • Seance

  • Dread

  • Abyss

  • Whisper

  • Omen

  • Eclipse

  • Sanguine

  • Ruin

Achievements

9 new achievements have been added to the game, which are connected to the Tome. We have also hit the 100 achievement limit. Because of this, we had to remove some older, more redundant achievements that had to do with mastery.

Bugfixes

  • Pummel no longer stutters after it's been redrawn

  • The Patched Twins' HP no longer doubles after their first death

  • The game no longer resets the display mode after changing scenes (between the main menu, HQ, battle and the crossroads)

  • The display mode dropdown is now static, and should not be empty

Updates and Improvements

  • Player orientation can now be changed by clicking on the character

  • The full deck can be viewed before the pre-battle rewards are picked

What's Next

A Unity 6 engine upgrade is incoming. The next content update will introduce Wand, the third and final main-hand item.

On behalf of the team at Lycan Studio, thank you for playing Monastery and for the feedback that keeps shaping it. If you have a moment, a Steam review helps more than you might think.
